Via proxy, marlowe takes Shawn Green - TOR.
oof, didn't see that one coming. I can't imagine he's taken that often in R5—or ever, is he?
This is the first time that Green has been drafted in any round.  Second time ever claimed during the draft (protected as one of the first five in Leg 39 by Blue Jays owner...  marlowe.  Hmm.....)
a-HA!

Guess pini doesn't like to sitemail..... 2B Steve Sax LAD

The Dodgers come off the board with the Sax pick.

Additionally, the Dodgers select Willie McGee, STL.

Larry Gura of the Royals.

Only the second time that McGee has lasted long enough to be drafted in the 3rd round, but also the second leg in a row.  He was also drafted by the Dodgers (tridentric) in Leg 39, but it was one pick later, as the Yankees and Dodgers swapped places in the draft this time.

The fact that I gave some vaguely serious consideration towards McGee in round /One/ should be telling.

Stop me if you've heard this song before:

Scott Rolen, Cardinals

St. Louis is off the board

After AV takes one of his favorites, I'll take one of mine: Rico Carty of the Atlanta Braves

Before I decided 2B was a bigger need, I was looking at Rolen.  A very good pick in round three, methinks.

Also, I had Boston Manny on my shortlist had he fallen to me but obviously that never became an option.

That's a wrap.  League number coming our shortly.

A few players whose availability might be a pleasant surprise to their owners:

Some that have made it through a few times before:

Roy Halladay, Blue Jays
Javy Lopez, Braves
Bert Blyleven, Twins

One who has made it through only twice -- each of the last two legs:
Jimmy Rollins, Phillies

And one who made it through for the first time (usually protected for first or second round, but always drafted previous times unprotected):
Eric Davis, Reds

-----

I definitely would have taken Davis in the last round if my top native shortstop option were a bit better than Luis Aparicio.

I'm not using Bert "Be Home" Blyleven.

You drafted a couple of innings.
