How important is it to have a pitcher with 5 pitches then it is a pitcher with 3 pitches? Is it very important or does it not matter how many pitches a pitcher has?

When looking at 4 different pitchers and for example all 4 has the same exact stamina, strength, VSL, VSR, control, and velocity which would you choose?

I'm beginning more and more to think its a big deal. Especially if all 5 pitches are over 50.

That's hard to find though isn't it? I have 1 guy with all 5 pitches 50+ and he doesn't seem to be that great.  Andrew Phillips

He is doing pretty good this season but his ML totals aren't a standout.

None of those pitches are dominant and a lefty split in the 50s isn't great.

I didn't vote because the answer is "it depends."  I'd rather a pitcher with 4 pitches rated 50+ than a pitcher with 5 pitches and a 5th pitch rating of 25.  The low rated 5th pitch hurts him.

The quality of the pitches themselves are more important than just the number of pitches.

I'm sure that effective starters with two pitches are few and far between.

At least in my experience, three pitch pitchers seem to under-perform, while guys with 5 good pitches seem to over-perform.

From my little experience it seems all things being equal the more pitches the better, but if the pitcher has solid pitch numbers he can survive with less than 3 pitches

2 pitch pitchers are almost always relievers (based on DUR/STA).

My earlier comment was supporting burnsy's comment.  A four pitch pitcher with high pitch ratings will be better than a five pitch pitcher with average pitch ratings (assuming all else is equal).

Also, to burnsy's point, a low rated 5th pitch (less than 30) is more of a detriment than an advantage.

unless you have a guy like this who can pitch every 2 days lol

Wow!  When that guy signs his next contract for $110M, I think he will actually be a bargain.

How hard is the guy who had the #1 pick kicking himself in the nuts?
