It should be interesting featuring two sweet 16 teams from last season. Texas, Tyler looks strong. It's going to be a difficult road challenge for Westfield St.  Good luck coachucla!

#12 Westfield St - 71; #14 Texas, Tyler - 76

Texas, Tyler pulls out a close victory in a matchup of top 15 teams over Westfield State, 76-71. The victory propelled Westfield State out of the rankings and UTT up to number 7 in the most recent polls.
Both teams had two players fouling out, and fouls played a big role in the game as there were 68 free throws attempted. UTT took the lead with 17:36 left in the game and never relinquished it. A small run stretched it to 9 with 7 minutes remaining with Westfield St managing to shrink the lead to 4 at a few points but never any closer. UTT hit enough free throws down the stretch to maintain the advantage. Eugene Urena took home player of the game honors with a 16 point effort, tallying 10 of those points in the second half. Michael Deshotel gave a 14 point, 6 rebound effort for Westfield St in the loss.

Today's games:
#11 Dominican @ Westfield State
Centre @ #13 Palm Beach Atlantic
Loras @ #7 Texas, Tyler

#3 Muhlenberg also faces a tough out-of-tourney opponent, going on the road to #17 Wisconsin, Whitewater
9/11/2013 12:07 PM
Centre - 98; #13 Palm Beach Atlantic - 96 (3 OT)

In what proved to be the game of the night, Centre outlasted Palm Beach Atlantic in 3 overtimes to pull out a squeeker, 98-96. In a game that featured 176 field goal attempts, 61 3-point attempts and 61 free throws, with six players logging over 40 minutes, Charles Hopkins jumper from the left side with 3 seconds remaining in the 3rd OT proved to be all that separated these two squads from a 4th OT. Player of the game Logan Snyder put in a monster effort with 21 points and 16 boards to help just barely hold off the three-headed monster of James Raney, Jason Watkins and Michael Ross who poured in 63 of PBAU's 96 total points.

#11 Dominican - 48; Westfield State - 49

Westfield State used a strong second half to pull out a close victory at home against #11 Dominican, propelling them back into the top 25. Player of the Game Joe Stennis' two free throws in the closing seconds proved to put the game out of reach after a clumsy illegal screen by Dominican C Richard Grant prevented them from putting up a game-tying attempt with 9 seconds left in regulation. A meaningless three at the buzzer gave us the final score in a game which Westfield State's stingy defense (.360 opponent FG%) was necessary to overcome Dominican's 14-7 advantage on the offensive glass.

Loras - 80; #7 Texas, Tyler - 71

Loras flipped a 6 point halftime deficit to a nine point victory after outscoring #7 Texas, Tyler 46-31 in the second half to pull out the road victory. Paced by Player of the Game John Canela's 16 points of the bench, Loras used a 13-1 run from 10:27-8:02 and a 14-1 run from 6:54-0:34 to seal the win. The difference proved to be defense as Loras held UTT to a .371 fg% day, nullifying the six extra shots UTT was able to put up due to their offensive rebounding and turnover advantages.

Standings as of 9/12

Centre/Loras  1 and 0
UTT/Westfield St 1 and 1
Dominican/PBAU  0 and 1

#2 Muhlenberg - 82; Centre - 57

#2 Muhlenberg used a dominating first half performance to cruise to a 25 point victory over host Centre, 82-57. Player of the Game Joseph Thomson put in 14 of his 19 points in the first half to lead the Mules, but the real back breaker was the bench whose 25-4 advantage over Centre's backups in the first half made up much of the difference in the score. Centre was able to right the ship and play the number 2 ranked team evenly through the second half, but could not find the run they needed to tighten the game. They were lead by Charles Hopkins 15 points. Centre last lead at 8-7 with 17:01 left in the first half, but a 21-3 run over the next five minutes gave Muhlenberg an edge, which they widened decisively with a 14-2 run from 7:09 to 3:23.

#23 Dominican - 78; Palm Beach Atlantic - 74

Paced by Player of the Game Kenneth Hausmann's 19 second half points in a 27 point night, Dominican was able to hold off Palm Beach Atlantic's comeback efforts last evening. A 3-point play by PBAU C Walter Larsen closed the gap to 2 points with 0:31 left in the game, but Dominican hit their free throws to allow that lead to hold up on a night when 4 PBAU starters went for double digit points, lead by Herschel Winebarger's solid 14 point 7 rebound (5 offensive boards) effort. It was a second half of runs, as Dominican stretched the 2 point halftime lead to 13 by the 13:12 mark. By 8:08, PBAU had managed to close the gap to 2. This was answered by another Dominican run, again stretching the advantage to 10 by 3:45, which was followed quickly by the 10-2 run capped off with Larsen's 3 point play. In the end, the clock ran out and there were no more runs to be had.

Standings as of today
Muhlenberg/Loras 1 and 0
Dominican/Westfield St/UTT  1 and 1
PBAU  0 and 2

Tonight's slate of games:
#1 Muhlenberg @ UTT
Centre @ Loras
PBAU @ #9 Westfield State
Dominican is having it's tournament "bye" but is at Elms (2-3) tonight.

I'm going on a camping trip so I probably won't be able to do any write-ups tomorrow, but I'll try to be back for Sunday. If anyone would like to take over on the forum, by all means go for it!
