doubletruck, any chance on getting a league # so we might start drafting?
7/12/2013 2:42 AM
Hate to do this, but I'm going to back out. Good luck doubletruck.

Well, we've got owners abandoning their ships. I'm reluctant to create the league and invest in starting this up if owners aren't going to stick with it. If any remaining owners are planning to ditch their planes, please say so now ...

I think all of these teams should come in at $110-120 million. That seems competitive to me, based on a lot of theme-league experience.

Do you think the salary cap should be lowered and, if so, how much?

its been 3 wks since start & I don't think the cap has anything to do with it.  Just looks like it won't fill?
7/13/2013 11:58 AM
Well, I've had leagues take longer than this to fill. So far three have voted, all to lower the cap; although, two of them, are presently not in the league.

I voted for $100 million cap. I drafted my team for the 49-53 Yankees and it was all I could do to get to $98 million. With that said I suspect most teams would have a similar issue since their are no clones and your pool of players are limited. May not matter whether it's $100 million or $120 million.

I can make a complete 1906-10 Cubs team for about $105m. anything above $110 is wasted. I voted fro $100 so there would be some decisions to make. HOWEVER changing the rules is always a risk. People don't like drafting a team for one rule and then having it changed. I generally despise leagues where the rules are left up to a vote.

If we are changing the cap then I am dropping out as I can field a team up to the salary cap.
7/13/2013 11:51 PM
For what it's worth, I would probably join if the cap were lowered to 100-110 million.

Advisory poll results were mixed. 6 of league's owners want $100 million, 5 want more. (2 more not presently in league favored $100 and another not in posted that he'd like to see $100-110.)

Well, this isn't a democracy. I'm persuaded that reducing the cap is fair, but that $100 million goes too far.

I am changing the salary cap to $110 million.

All owners can now stay put or drop out (or in). Owners can also still change teams if they prefer a different one that is still available.

When this dust settles, we'll see where we are. Then I will create the league and post its number.

I'll take 42-46 Cards.

Cap at $110 M is fine. I've got to shave $80,050 off my team. not a big deal. I like the theme and will take a second team if we have a hard time filling.
7/14/2013 4:01 PM
Ok, I'm gonna go ahead & figure out my team at the 110 figure.  Shouldn't make much difference from the 120.  I'd also take a 2nd team if you need & try to select a very different team in the process.  But for now working on my 87-91 Twins.

I could only manage to assemble a team at 115 M and I was putting in fillers for the last few roster positions. So it really doesn't matter to me. It sounds like many of teams would be in a similar situations. You might be able to solve that problem by allowing average AAA players. Just a suggestion. Whatever you decide I am in.
