The Happy Birthday Progressive League is based on a progressive league run by Frazzman80 in the regular sim. It is now starting the 9th season and has been a lot of fun to draft and play. I took his version and tweaked it a little bit.
When an owner signs up he also selects a date (Month and Day) and a ballpark. Dates and ballparks are exclusive.
The player pool for the 1st draft will be made up of all players born on the owners selected dates. Baseballreference.com will be the source of the players birthdays. Two more dates will be randomly chosen to make sure there are enough players in the draft pool.
Each new season a few random dates will be added to create that seasons "rookie" class. In frazzman80's league 3 new dates are added and that seems to be enough players, but this will be flexible and if a 4th date is needed it will be.
Players that have missing seasons will not go on IR.
(Example: If you have Ted Williams on your team, after his 1942 season he will not miss 3 seasons as he did in real life. He will move to his next available season, in this case 1946)
The only instance for a player going on IR is for current players
(Example: If you have Mike Trout on your team and he plays 2011,2012 and 2013 and the 2014 season is not available he would go on IR until his next season is in the WIS database.)
I would love to have this be a 24 team league but I realize with the state of live play now it is next to impossible to get 24 for a progressive league, so we may have to settle for 16. If you are not willing to play a 16 it is probably best you don't sign up.
Draft order will be determined by random.org after all owners have signed up.
No salary cap
No WW or DH
AAA will be 6/4 below average
trades are allowed
trades of draft picks allowed only one season ahead
40 games must be played live to participate in the post season
This has been a great league to play with the mix of all the eras. It should be even more fun live.
Any questions or comments post here or sitemail me.
I will pick my park and date last.
