Yeah but that seems crazy.   "No, I'm OK here at Northwestern.  I'll pass on USC."
It does, but he loves Northwestern and they unexpectedly promoted him to head coach when Randy Walker died.  There is a lot of love, respect, etc. there between Fitzgerald and the school.  I really have no idea if he would leave, but USC is certainly a job he would have to consider and might just leave for.
USC did beat Northwestern in the 1996? Rose Bowl...a team that Pat Fitzgerald played/was captain on...so that might be a damper too.
Yeah, I'm sure he's still got a major axe to grind about that...

Seriously?

Yeah that is just nonsense.

Since it's now been proven that Al Davis wasn't completely crazy for blasting Kiffin, who's next for the Trojans?

I think it's Kevin Sumlin or James Franklin.      Relatively young, successful coaches at colleges far below the level of USC in terms of resources.
Word is Sumlin is their top choice.

Word is Sumlin is the top choice for UConn and Georgia State. Doesn't mean he's leaving.

If the money and contract length is right, he will.    Notice TAMU's D or lack thereof?    Without Manziel, College Station isn't much more of a destination job than UConn and Georgia State.

Sumlin got a new contract, so he won't be at USC.

TAMU did what they needed to do.

Steve Sarkasian accepts the job.

USC is probably the second best job in the country behind Texas in terms of recruiting.

I don't think Sumlin leaves. Texas A&M will pay him comparable to anyone else and they're the hot ticket for recruits.

I'll say Chris Peterson finally leaves Boise St to take the job.
Chris Peterson leaves, but he goes to Washington.

That seems like an odd move to me.

Yeah I don't get Peterson at all.  Top candidate for USC, but withdraws from consideration.  USC then hires Sarkasian from Washington, who then hires Peterson.  Just really really strange.

I'm assuming he got wind that Sark was USC's first choice so he withdrew.   Just not sure what's the allure of Washington.   Seems like, if Peterson was a serious candidate for USC, that he'd be a serious candidate for somewhere better than Washington in the near future.   Maybe he won't mind jumping after a year or two but it seems like that would hurt recruiting down the road.   Once a coach gets the rep as a job-jumper, the kids know that it's unlikely he'll be around for their 4-5 years.

Washington is one of the better jobs in the country.  Lots of money, great facilities, beautiful campus, and the weather actually isn't that bad.  If they get the right coach they can be a contender for national titles.  Peterson is probably the best coach they've had in years and he has a pretty good base to work with.  I'd be surprised if they weren't in the Pac 12 title race as early as next year.
