Ties are socialist, and perfectly acceptable.

Honestly, all sports get sloppier the longer the game goes.    In baseball, you have a back-up SS pitching in the 14th.   Basketball, the guy who averages 2 mpg suddenly plays 12.     As for "more important", what's a bigger impact on who makes the post-season?  A tie in a 16, 81 or 162 game schedule?
If a win (as opposed to a tie, which gets counted as half a win) is the difference between making or not making the post-season, then make sure you win your game in the 60 minutes of regulation.

That's a pretty ****-poor excuse.

So you think players/coaches aren't trying to win in that 60 minutes?

My issue isn't with the sloppiness of the game, it's with the physical nature of the game and the fact that having 2 teams continue to pound on each other indefinitely starts to have potential impacts on the next week/rest of the season that you don't encounter to the same degree with other sports.  It's unavoidable in the postseason, but I just don't think it's needed in the regular season.

If the game is tied after 60 minutes, did they accomplish their goal of winning?

So you ARE in favor of baseball ties?

This as well.  Good point.

It's also the reason why we don't play sudden death for forever in hockey.

Is there a clock in baseball?

I assume none of you will be watching any up-tempo teams or games on Thursday.    Because, quite frankly, EVERY player talks about the damage to their bodies on Thursday games(not enough time to heal).    And up-tempo teams might run 80-90 plays as opposed to the 60-65 that other teams do.    Those up-tempo guys force teams/players to play an extra quarter/half.

College system, but start at the 50
The college system is horrible.  I'd rather see games end in a tie than be decided by a gimmick.
It's fairer because each team gets an equal amount of opportunities.  The NFL system now is better than what it used to be, but that isn't saying much, as it could be a lot better than it is.  Starting from the 25 is a joke...from the 50 or further back, it adds credibility/challenge to the format.

Average Eagles game:  140+ plays
Average Texans game:  128 plays

Boycott the Eagles, they're endangering players!!!!!   And dogs!!!!!

Wow, that's quite a leap - did I say anywhere that I wouldn't watch games if they played OT indefinitely?  I don't consider it some great evil, I just think it's not needed during the regular season.

Thursday night games are almost invariably poorly played due to lack of prep and lack of physical recovery.  I don't think we should be gunning for more of that.

That's not even a 10% difference - hardly an extra quarter/half.

In the NFL, they actually play the same game in OT as they do in regulation.  Yes, it's still slightly weighted towards the team who gets the ball first because if there's an odd number of possessions they'll always have the extra one, but equality of possessions isn't guaranteed in regulation, why should it be in overtime?  Now everyone gets the ball once unless they kick off and give up a TD.

Why is 60 minutes sufficient to accomplish your goal of winning but 9 innings, well, maybe not?
