and here in 2008 is the introduction of the class size limit - some three years later

here is a link to that dev chat

Why wasn't this change made 20 seasons ago when godmaker was winning titles in Naismith using "superclasses"? (porkpower - Hall of Famer - 11:57 AM)

We have made numerous changes in an attempt to curb super-classes such as limiting recruiting budgets, decreasing carryover amounts, the addition of transfers, players leaving early for the NBA, etc. but the bottomline is that certain coaches are still able to game the system by doing just enough to keep all of the players happy enough to not transfer so they can keep their superclass together for 4 years.

those old chats dont totally make sense without being able to see what was going on in HD at the relevant times.  And perhaps read the forum discussions.

I am struck by how much more change and development went on back then

but do check out the 2005 and 2008 dev chats for some interesting background

You all are so out of touch and you're trying to tell me "how it is" and should be.  Take over a 10+ spot and get back to me...you'll realize it's trash.
There are two in Phelan. I will let you pick which one I take if you promise not to post if I make the nt by year 3.

The more I think about this, I have done it. When I take over a team, I cut all the garbage I can. It isn't a big deal.

Season 66, Wooden, Redlands. Signed 9. Made the 2nd round of the nt in my 2nd season. It isn't that hard, if I can do it right? You are at least as good a coach as I am right?

So whoever the admin was at this time is basically admitting that this is a stop-gap for all the other measures that didn't work, thus this does essentially lend to my theory of a double whammy...so they finally got/made a solution for superclasses, but they didn't care to adjust anything after they did so.

Love how you backtracked here...love it!

You can recruit a team just as good if not better with 6 juniors and 6 seniors, than you would with 12 seniors, assuming you get scholarship money for 6.

Most players max out or come close to maxing out by their junior anyway, assuming the work ethic isn't too low. You would get more money per recruit $15,000+tourney money/6 vs $15,000+tourney money/12. resulting in better players in most instances, since you'll have more recruiting money per player.

You can offer more promises to more players, which results more players to consider your school quicker and with less money. If I'm recruiting 12  in one season, I can only give 5 of them promised starts, but if recruit 12 in 2 seasons, then I can offer 10 starts.

Heck, I will let you pick the offense, defense, team, an whatever silly restrictions you want so I stay within the parameters of what you think is fair game play.

Done it multiple times. First year recruit five or so with the six players worth of money, leaving you with seven players. Stink the first year. Second year, add five more players, leaving you with between ten and twelve players depending on what class the other two preexisting players were. Third year, round things out. Might be able to be pt or nt that year if you do it right, but otherwise, you will be by the fourth year ...

Oh and hi Colonels. I realize I'm somehow being insulting by chiming in at all. I'm not sure how, but I'm sure something will be found.

I don't think anyone expects you to treat them like they are automatically right, or for you to decide that whatever you believe is wrong; but I do think they expect you to treat them like fellow human beings and with a modicum of basic respect. Especially if you have any desire to receive such in return. It is basic social arithmetic.

I think you can fairly say I have tried to go out of my way to interact nicely with you for quite some time now. So perhaps this can mean something coming from my typing fingers. Perhaps eventually you may realize that someone can hold a different position than you without that holding somehow being a personal attack.

Yeah, that was hard :).   I signed 10 guys on 6 scholarships.

I had three battles with A+ Prestige programs and won 2 out of 3.

colonels is just ****** because despite what he says, he really, really cares what people think of his ideas. clearly, he thought he had something legitimate here, and as nobody agrees, he is a little but-hurt and is carrying on as a result.
