I have the #2 pick in an upcoming draft.  I have never seen such a lack of talent at the top of a draft as I have in this one.  Usually if you have a top 5 pick there is a player you can get excited about, but that is not the case in this draft.  My scouting is 17 HS and 17 College so the ratings projections shold be pretty accurate.  These are the 5 players who I feel have the most talent but each have their flaws, especially the position players.  I am interested in what others think of these four and how they might rate them.  feel free to chime in with any comments regarding the players.

I voted for Option 3, but if Option 2 (the 3B... he's not a SS) hits Switch or Lefty, I would switch to him.

I agree that he is really a 3B.  He would be a no brain pick if his contact was in the high 60's+.  The projected 40 Contact rating concerns me.  I have glanced thru a couple of my leagues and have not really found any players with a contact rating in the high 30's to 40 with similar power, splits and eye to get a gauge on his potential.  I feel he would likely be a .240 hitter with power and and likely to have an obp. around .330 to .340.  While he might have an ops above .800, his contact rating is concerning and not what I normally associate with a #2 overall pick.

Option # 6.... The #3 pick next season..

Option 3 would be an elite pitcher, if only his stamina were a bit higher. But I'd definitely pick the 2B.

i think it's between option 2 or 3...or like willsauve said- just take someone who won't sign and get someone better next season

IMO, there is no question.   If a PP doesn't blow you away, always take a starting pitcher.   23/60 DUR/STM is plenty good enough for a SP.     #3 without a doubt.

I don't choose #1 because #3 is a front-end pitcher in my mind. #1 is my second choice, though I would expect him to be in CF for me.

#1 is an ok choice for 6th or 7th overall, but clearly #3 is the winner, his dur sta isnt stellar, but his skills are ace material.  He is going to absolutely murder in the playoffs.  And even if he pitches every 6 spots in the regular season it doesnt really matter.  worst case scenario he is going to be a top top flite SUA.  but I think his dur sta will be sufficient for starting.     

I'd go for one of the pitchers.  #3 has the best ratings but not sure he ahs the durability to be a starter.  I'd probably go #3 or #4.

Even if you don't think you want to use him as a starter (I would), you could use him as a Setup A available in the 6th inning.  If he gets you 120 innings in high leverage situations, that's fantastic.

Okay, I'm convinced. Take the pitcher. Better max out the training budget to make sure he actually gets to 64 stamina.

I'd definitely put the second baseman in second place, and I wouldn't be disappointed to end up with him. He'll be good for a .350+ OBP, he'll rank among the league's all time leaders in steals without getting caught much at all, and his range could give you 15 to 20 plus plays per year.

imo you should take the best player, and the best player CLEARLY is #2, even if you have to move him to 3B

along with 77 speed is absolutely ridiculous, he'll be a 30+ Hr / 40+ steal guy and will get tons of + plays at 3B, he is by far the best player out of this group.

the 40 contact will just mean that he strikes out a lot, and that's really not the end of the world. More strikeouts = fewer double plays imo.

My adage is that you should concentrate on the things a player does well rather than be fixated on 1 or 2 things he doesn't do so great.  There's a difference between "not being perfect" and "not being good enough". #2 is probably to be a pretty awesome player, esp if you have 20 training and a good fielding coach

He will be less valuable than P#3.    No question about that.
