Anyone who think Jones is going to come and be a capable back-up right off the bat is kidding themselves.    He went 18-35 against Bama.   That was easily the best defense he faced.    And Bama would be ranked about 60th in the NFL in D.   Smart teams would look at him as a 3rd QB project.    And that's not a 3rd round pick.

That's fair - but it was a 4th round pick for a guy like Thomas.  And since Jones doesn't have 3 years on film being a thoroughly mediocre passer in the ACC to contradict the workouts that will likely have the scouts drooling, it wouldn't shock me if someone takes him towards the back of the 3rd because they are worried he won't be around in the 4th.

So, basically, I'm agreeing with you that 3rd seems like a reach, but he seems to me like he could inspire a reach.

I would be shocked. He's 6th, 7th, or undrafted IMO. I think the fact he's had about 6 weeks of coaching as a starter is a HUGE negative.

I still think it's a knee-jerk reaction.  12-17 against WI in a 59-0 blowout and 18-35 against the best D he faced.   Throw in "we ain't here to play school" and his coach, the day after winning the NC saying "He was selfish, lazy and immature 6 months ago" and there are too many questions to spend a high pick on him.

But, since he ain't there to play school, he should probably declare, drop out, visit one of those QB gurus and prepare for the combine.   Being a low draft pick and making a team as a 3rd string QB isn't that bad of a life.   And no bothersome classes to attend.

Seems a bit irrelevant now.    Jones said he doesn't think he's ready for the next level.    I'm sure Urban got in his ear and promised him the world next season.

Jones going back to OSU, likely means he will be the starter, which probably means Miller is transferring.

He'll be suspended for grades before the season starts.

He has been at school for 3 years moron.  He is actually a pretty good student.

According to scouts he would have been a late 2nd or 3rd round pick at the worst.

1/15/2015 5:29 PM
That's BS. There's no damn way he would go from 3 starts to a 3rd round pick. None. Zero.
1/15/2015 6:04 PM
Yep.  If he had an inkling he would be 2nd/3rd round, he'd have turned pro.    Otherwise, he's dumber than I think he is.

I saw a report, forget where, that said he might even be the third QB taken.

I'm sure it was a highly reputable source...

I've said I could have seen someone reaching for him late in the third, but the only thing I found from anyone even a bit credible was McShay saying he would have him in the 4th/5th round.

I think that report was on www.BuckeyeNation.com
