Ever hear of a smartphone?  FFS...that's how I do all of my gameplanning, recruiting, etc at work...get up from my desk for a couple mins, do what I have to do and bam, back to work...that's the work around...

Damn. I wasn't even aware there was a "mirror" site". Sucks that every sports site is blocked at work. And yes I have computer access during lunch. I can check personal e-mail and regular news ... and the women sit around accessing entertainment and shopping sites (all day) ... but heaven forbid someone look at some sports info or sports fantasy site. Heaven forbid.

I was going to give my opinion then I realized I was at work so......
Wait what? Guess I got the coolest boss because as long as my work gets done that's all that matters to him.

No offense to anyone, but I don't understand why so many people feel it necessary to play games (any games, not just WIS) while at work.

I'm an incredibly busy person myself, working far more than a normal work week. I could log on at work because we do not have any such monitoring or blocking software and no one would care - but I don't, because to be honest I have too much work to do.  Evidently not everyone's schedule is so busy, but even if I wasn't so swamped all the time, I still wouldn't play games at work, because  while I enjoy the games and like having fun as much as anyone, my background is that work is time to be productive, not play games. Again, no offense to anyone else.

So please forgive me if I am not overly sympathetic to this situation, but if I had that much free time to play WIS at work, I'd be asking my employer for a raise since I would be so productive as to get my work done and have that much time left over.

Blah blah blah, I'm important I work hard and work time is for work. I too work far more than a normal work week. I pull on on call shift at my job. I work in the middle of the night, on weekends, and basically whenever my company needs me to. Working 80 hours in a week is not that uncommon for me. I am paid hourly and I make overtime for the extra hours each week so I'm not complaining about compensation. However, if you work that many hours, or even a normal 8 hour day, people are entitled to take breaks.

Oh you said no offense to anyone, so I guess I can't take exception to your post. but good for you and your background, you were clearly raised better than many people on this site

No offense
I never said I was important because I work hard or that I was raised better than anyone, so please don't try to put words in my mouth.

I'm fine with people taking breaks when they are able or are permitted and using their own equipment/connections to play HD.

Some employers clearly do not want their employees using work equipment/connections to play HD.  If they were okay with it, they clearly wouldn't have the main WIS site blocked with software.

As colonels suggested, go use your smart phone on your own connection wherever your take your break.  Then you won't need to worry about "mirror" sites or anything of the sort.

Well if you work 80 hours a week, get a damned smartphone with an unlimited data plan...that's the solution here...

Honestly, it's 2015...get a smartphone and quit ******* whining...I mean if it was 2005, I'd give you a break, but for **** sakes...

Surprising to me that anyone would have or express an opinion about when others participate in this activity and the circumstances in which they work.

People are of course entitled to their opinions - including wrongheaded opinions.

I wasn't going to say anything, but since you are surprised at the notion I would express an opinion on the matter, I'll elaborate:

I always ask myself how many people would love to have my job, and the answer is a lot of people. The next question I have for myself is why do I have any more right to my job than anyone else with similar qualifications does, and while it is in some ways a multi-faceted answer, the short answer is because I work harder.

I also take a great deal of pride in my work. It is my sincere belief that to do anything less than the best effort I have at any given moment in time means I shouldn't be doing it at all. My background is that if I can't give it my all, then the job should instead go to someone similarly qualified who will give it their all.

I do not expect anything from others that I am not willing to do myself. Since I would not expect to keep my own job if I do not give it my all, I expect nothing less from those who work for me. I also expect to be rewarded for my hard work, and so I reward those who work hard for me.

I don't see any point in doing a job if you aren't going to give it everything you've got at any point in time. That's why it always bothers me to hear anyone making a reference to using work time for something other than work (such as playing HD during work time), as it suggests they are not giving their work everything they have.

This is my culture and background and belief. If yours is different, that is fine.

I worked a job where I was putting in over 70 hours a week. I had to do my gameplanning at work. 5 min out of my day is not going to hurt my productivity. If anything it's going to help me pull away long enough to get myself together again.

turning away from the assumptions that some may make about the nature of the jobs and responsibilities of others...

isnt this a foolish decision by WIS?

part of the appeal of the game is its ability to involve you often during the day.  You want to maintain player involvement.  You want lots of clicks.  The game, the forums, etc.  You want people to be involved.

To that end, WIS should want to make the experience work really well from smart phones - I think its okay but not great on a smart phone.

To that end, WIS should want to design user interaction to avoid running afoul of workplace security rules

shouldnt WIS be trying to make its product maximally accessible?

I agree ^^

I've done recruiting all by phone a couple times and it is really tedious. If anything they should be making the game more accessible in every way.

All this bullshit ignores the fact that this site is included in the "Gambling" category of a lot of filtering systems.  Or some other dumb category.  A lot of those systems are just implemented out-of-the-box without any actual configuration and the rules often don't make sense.

just to give one iota of insight on the web content filtering, virtually nobody anywhere blocks individual sites. you pay for a service. it blocks 10 thousand plus sites, you might have some categories, like porn, gambling, etc... but generally some admin sets it without giving the slightest bit of a **** what is actually blocked and what is not. then the settings sit unchanged for ~5 years until the device/service is replaced, in which a new set of generic filtering rules is instituted.

in our company's case, we never had filtering until some external company pressured us to have a more thorough security policy. now we block porn and some other BS, but really, we don't give a ****, it was a checkbox. we have the checkbox. if whatifsports was blocked, i'd go unblock it, and we specifically unblocked spotify to keep our people happy - so we will unblock something, but never manually block it. its funny to me to think of some admin somewhere individually selecting acceptable an unacceptable sites, sitting there gently stroking his stapler as the world's tiniest power trip still goes to his head. im sure that happens somewhere, as some % of our population are incredibly pathetic individuals. but that is certainly not the norm!
