I think you should have given current ratings for each prospect and then made the projections fuzzier. Half the fun of the draft is seeing where a player is now and then projecting how he will do in the future.

I find myself much more likely to sign those kind-of-expensive-guys in the 4th through 8th rounds, whereas before I wouldn't bother.

That's pretty much what I expected.

The splits were key.   54/5.   You know that can't even be close to right.   There are a few oddballs like that but not many.   So I figured he topped out somewhere in the middle.     Same thing with arm at 15/48.   Never see that.   He was actually better than I thought in that aspect.   I figured he'd top out as a 1B but I probably should have taken range/glove into account 66/77.   He'll probably be a LF.  A HiA LF but a LF nonetheless.

That's what I do when I'm going cheap on IFAs and looking for lottery tickets.  I look for projections that make no sense at all, based on what I have come to expect HBD players to look like.  When I see those, maybe it's like the system is giving me a hint.

For instance, right now in one world (5 mil IFA scouting) I'm seeing a potential SS with fielding projections 85/97/87/56.  I know all these projections are "wrong", but that 56 is SO inconsistent that it makes me think there's something here.  I put out a feeler bid and sure enough there are other owners bidding this player up.  Now I can think maybe his numbers end up closer to the 85 than the 56.
