How important is Stamina? Topic

At U of Indy, I built a whole team of high 60s and low 70s guys and that worked out fine. AT Weber St. I just noticed got a call from the make-believe team doctor on Signing Day while deleting messages from my make-believe phone that all my make-believe recruits have make-believe mild or exercise-induced asthma. Bill Houle and Neil Wessels have been cured through 20 minutes of conditioning a day but everyone else has asthma for good. On a more serious note, you can just play 11 guys and slow down and you will be fine. I remember when I asked my conference mate, Emy, for advice, the first thing he told me was to stop worrying so much about stamina. However, the title of this post was not rhetorical, why do people think that stamina is important, AT ALL? How is it important? Why do people care if a guy is only going to get high 60s in STA? Isn't low 80 to high 60s more than 3 or 4 minutes a game?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

The better the player the more important stamina is. A super star with 60 stamina isn't really a star because he can only play 21-23 minutes, the same guy with a stamina in the upper 80s is 30% better because he'll play 30% more minutes.

With that being said, I usually don't look at stamina while recruiting.

At the same time - I am willing to sacrifice on stamina for an elite player. But if average Joe wants to come on board, average Joe better be able to hang with the XC team. Because if average Joe is going to be average in the universal sense, he damn well better be able to excel in a particular area and contribute to our system.

That said, I agree.

Yeah its probably fine but I don't really like being forced to go slowdown when you have no depth or stamina. I would rather go uptempo and crush the other team into the ground than deal with a low possession duel.

now with that said, I do give up St sometimes for other ratings but for my press teams I def make sure its at least decent. If its exceptional st then I'd give up SOME of the other ratings. Sometimes you get lucky with someone who has both like this guy

awesome name too.

IMA go back to Kate Upton.

Kate Upton sez "I'm gonna give you a great 15 minutes."

You say "Nah, the hell with that. I need 22-23 minutes."

Uh, no, you do not.

So you're saying I only need to get 2 minutes out of my players?

No. I'm saying if the guy is good enough, you build around him. IOW, you can find a $20 hooker to give you that extra 7-8 minutes you need.

On the stamina point I agree. I rarely consider stamina at all when recruiting except as a tiebreaker between similar recruits. I was just having fun with the Kate Upton analogy.

Hoho!

As was I. My point was simple. If a player, or chick, is good enough, you worry a lot less about how much time they give you.

I'd also say, the weaker the bench the more important stamina is. If your backup is trash then you want him to play as little as possible. If your trash backup is playing as much or more than your starter then you're in trouble.

Thanks for the input Benis, Mike, Mrslam, Thinair, and TJ. You guys are super helpful.
