2023 WIS Championship - Round 1 Themes

All leagues will have:

8. No team name requirements (although it would be nice if your team name was somewhat descriptive of your selection)

$70 Million - Khris Davis Appreciation League

(1) All batters must have a batting average of .247 or less. You do not have to roster Khris Davis.

(2) All pitchers must have a HR/9 rating of 0.50 or higher. This will eliminate the majority of dead-ball pitchers.

(3) To minimize the chances of a death fatigue spiral inflating the W-L records of teams lucky enough to be in the same league as the fatigued team, you must roster at least 1250 innings.

You will choose one of the 25 available Bingo Cards. Each card contains randomized years between 1920 and 2022 among the 25 spaces. (No Free space).

You have 3 ways to build your roster. You must choose one of these methods.
1. Select any five years horizontally, vertically or diagonally. You must roster 5 players from each year.
2. Select the four corners and roster six players from each year. The 25th player can be a player from any other year on that card.
3. Select one player from each of the 25 years on the card.

Pick three real-life teams from that season.
The combined W-L record of those 3 teams must be .500 or worse
Build your roster using at least 8 players from each of those 3 teams.

Q: Just to be clear, for the $100M team: one or two of your teams can be over .500 as long as the cumulative total of the 3 is below .500?
A: Yes, the cumulative total of the three teams must be at, or below, .500

Q: What if none of the ballparks used by your teams is available?
A: You must use WhatifSports Park if all three parks are unavailable.

Q: Do all 25 players have to come from the 3 teams you pick?
A: Yes, your entire roster comes from the 3 teams. You will have 9 from one team and 8 from each of the others. No other teams/seasons.

$110 Million - Two Clones & Teammates

You can clone one hitter and one pitcher as many times as you like. But all the other players on your roster must be teammates of your clones (i.e., same season, no twisting). So if your hitter clones has 4 versions and your pitcher clone has 3 versions, that's 7 different teams you can pull your 25-man roster from. You do not have to roster a teammate from every clone you use. This theme will use the post-expansion era. The DH will be in use.

$110M Q&A

Q: For the 110M "Two Clones" theme, can the teammates of the two chosen clones be clones themselves? Lets say Chipper Jones is your hitter clone, can you roster several versions of Greg Maddux as long as they were teammates in the rostered years?
A: If you clone Maddux, then that counts as your pitcher clone. You cannot clone more than 1 hitter and 1 pitcher.... and those players determine what seasons the rest of your roster comes from.

Q: If a teammate was traded part way through the year (or traded for) are we limited to partial, or can we use combined season?
A: Combined seasons are allowed.

Q: Can you use a clone (Same player from 1990 and 1991 for example) and use 2 versions of that player from 1991 if they were traded? Meaning 3 clones but 2 from the same year.
A: No, WIS does not allow this.

Q: If you want to use both versions of a combined season, for instance, a player plays partial seasons with Yankees and Red Sox. Can you use his full and/or -combined season with both the Yankees and Red Sox from the same year so as to be able to play with both sets of teammates?
A: No, WIS does not allow this.

Q: If a player appeared for multiple teams and has multiple WIS seasons available from a single year, can you use teammates from either team? (Example: 1990 Willie McGee has partials with Oakland and St. Louis and combined seasons with both.)
A: No. They must be teammates from the specific partial/full/combined season you roster. In the McGee example, if you use his Oakland partial or combined, you can only use Oakland teammates.

$120 Million - One Franchise, Spread the Wealth

Description: All of your players must come from the same franchise. All 25 players on your roster must have salaries between $1 million and $11 million. See baseball-reference if you are uncertain which teams are part a single franchise (i.e., 1901-60 Senators / 1961-2022 Twins is considered the Twins franchise, while 1961-71 Senators / 1972-2022 Texas Rangers is considered the Rangers franchise).

$255 Million - Draft 'em All - Dual Boxes Edition

The "Draft 'Em All" theme recently finished their Season 31 draft. Using the exact draft order from this league, I have created two groups of 26 Boxes (12 players in each box). Group A and Group B.

Choose one group (A or B), and select one player (plus your park) from each of the 26 boxes in that group only. No crossovers between groups. You can use any season of that player. There are 12 ballparks in each group. See below for the Boxes.

Here's the catch that will make things interesting...
The alignment in each league will be based on total team salary. The four highest salary teams will be in the NL East, the four lowest salaried teams will be in the AL West.
