the box theme is really good, i'm having so much fun playing with different combinations for both teams
I've probably spent the most time on this theme (so far). I found it was easier to build my round 2 roster prior to building my round 1 roster.

Why should I build my round 2 roster? I'm not making that far anyway.

Everyone's odds improve with 72 instead of 96, though.

The only way I make it to Round Two is if we lower it to 24...and even then, it's questionable.

So am I the only one struggling to create a $120M team that's better than my $110M team?

I am enjoying trying different pieces in the 120M theme. It's hard to get the pieces from 5 teams to fit perfectly, so it's not surprising that the statistical profile of the 120M is similar to the 110M theme. There is going to be some wasted salary.

The minimum 2 hitter and 2 pitcher per-team rule was genius (redcped's concept) as it makes it difficult to use an all-pitching or all-hitting team w/o wasting salary.

Diabolical genius maybe!

I actually struggled more with the Swap 2 team. I actually think it turned out pretty well but I guarantee that by the time we get to Game 5 and I see the good ideas someone else used, I will be saying WTF was I thinking with this team...haha.

70m
I pick a franchise and a year and add 2 free agents from that year.... no twisting??

yes, no twisting

that question led me to re-read the rules and I originally missed that the 300k exceptions had to be from the year you chose, I was using all seasons as was typically the case with past exceptions. need to redo my team now I think, glad I checked!

If only that were the case. I had a team I really liked but it didn't have enough players even with the 300K exception.

A word of advice from someone who likes to build teams - but not ones that tax my poorly developed brain.

Build the $100M team first!

It's a real bear to try and make it all work.

I didn't think it was that hard to build a team. If you copy/paste the player grid into a spreadsheet, each time you add a player to you roster, simply highlight the row and column that corresponds to that player. As you add more players, it makes it very easy to see which players are still available to you.
The problem isn't building a legal team... the problem is trying to build one that doesn't suck while remaining compliant with the theme rules. I'm still trying to build a team with a functioning bench and bullpen...

Overall commentary on theme difficulty (i.e. how difficult it is to build a good team)

There's one theme that's pretty easy (plug and play) - the $80M one.

The $110M and $140M do present a bit of a jigsaw puzzle challenge - but all in all, it shouldn't be too difficult to build reasonably good teams here.

The $70M will require some research, but once you find the right team this one isn't too bad.

The $120M is rather challenging in that not only is there a serious jigsaw element, there's also the real risk that you wind up significantly under the salary cap or that you wind up with huge amounts of wasted salary. This one is difficult, but eventually I got to a team I was happy with.

And then there's the box theme ($100M). I've had multiple runs at trying to build a team with a functioning bullpen and without tons of wasted salary on bench players without success. Oh well, I've got 3-4 weeks to figure this one out lol. At least all the other teams are built.

I haven't started yet

I think the $120M theme was the toughest, followed by the box league.

I'm worried I underestimated the $70M team though and need to revisit it and the strategy used.
