I think an NT is only guaranteed by a 10-6 or better.  That might be a tough order.  The nonconference included a bleak 0-4 vs the top 25.  This team still lacks perimeter speed.

Paired with last year's class, the Herbert, Khan, McClimans, Allen, Robinson/Noggle core should provide a team that doesn't have to sneak into the NT in a couple of year.  Check out Herbert's and Noggle's development pattern in under a season.  Gus Khan will only spit at enemies from hell's depths if that LP is very, very green.  Robinson looks like a Noggle with flipped LP/PE splits.  Here's to you, Mr Robinson, indeed.  McClimans brings mad PE to the table; the green SPD will have to make up for the poor DEF rating.

Yikes!  Bad start for Salisbury who muscled into the PIT last year.  The team speed is good enough, but there some big problems: no G with 40+ BH/P, 2 DEF ratings over 40, no shot blocking, and 2 deep rebounding.  There are 5 FR here with enough skills that paired with the right SF you can picture another PIT run in 3 seasons.

Somehow I think Oyola belonged at Marymount… As mentioned above, some good stuff if the potentials are in line.  Cochran has ++ speed from the start; if "The Glove" nickname fits, it will acquit him well.  cummings' upside is dependent on his pe/bh colors -- by development so far, i think we will avoid a red wheelbarrow.  Neither big is on fire when comes to rebounding development through 12 practices, but Cook's other skill development (+3, +3, +4, +3 in ATH, DEF, BLK, and LP) will bring home the bacon.
In a song: "Parents Just Don't Understand" by Will Smith.  Speed may turn this team on, but they don't have a license to drive yet.

Interesting nonconference schedule with 6 Sims makes it harder to figure out where this RPI will land/what they need to do to leverage the last year of the Daniel Zeltman experience; I don't think they underperformed (they do have 5 FR), but they definitely can't fell good about 3 Sim losses.

Belli's improvement path looks bellisimo.  "Your Cousin, Marvin Perry" looks to continue to develop all around, though his REB may plateau right at/below 40.  Note the solid DEF ratings across the board.  Look at the Irish Rifle's +17 PE bump in the last year.  Wow.  I don't have a good read on the roles for all the G's given their development to date.  I'm taking a wait and see on this squad's future prognosis.

Great BTF reference. Hood is shooting for +3 over the formula.
10/5/2010 11:46 PM
I think Gallaudet took the right scheduling strategy.  In general we in the CAC all schedule way too hard in nonconf given our conference slate.  There's too many boise states out there for us to weed ourselves out before the conference starts.  That said, the USMM and Colby losses blew up an otherwise good plan.  He still sits at 42 SoS which will only rise so it clearly was the right choice in my mind.   I like Manahan.

Way under on MW - we could be sitting at 4-6 through the first 10.

The fact that redshirt frosh Williams is included in the top 3 REBs for York despite the fact he won't contribute may slightly skew the projection.  16-0 ain't happening.  I'd definitely take 14-2.

I'd have preferred to seea SF instead of Cook, who might just be one too many G's and spoil the batter.  Elser is money as a 12/15 ATH/SPD big is going to be after his RS year.  Shepard's pie hasn't risen as much as you would like, though his ATH/DEF/LP combo plays from day 1.  The real story is the development of Newport/McKinney/Severe in the backcourt.  One can only hope Robert Severe's last ride gets to report 1 is for PIT, 2 is for NT, as soon as next season.

In a song: How You Like Me Now? -- Kool Moe Dee. Right feel for the team song when they make their first dance under koop's leadership.  "Bleep the emcees in the place that said I could only rock rhymes, and only rock crimes, but never rock records, how you like me now?" -- just substitute in "the conference tournament" and "regular season" for "rhymes" and "crimes" and "NT" for "records"

Even with an 8-8 conference run, MW slides in as a 9/10 seed.  This team misses Crocker's floor spreading ability, embracing Leon Stephen's point-a-minute low post production as its calling card.  The -5 still works, helping them win the 2 points shooting and REB battles by more than enough to make up for long-distance and TO shortfalls.

Rusticity is not afraid to bring in new old players, adding a pass-first sprinter/PG in Gault and the athletic/D Coon/Adams combo as non-FR.  His Fr Dale Russell is coming along in REB and LP after his Escape from Jacksonville.  Stephens' success might point out a market inefficiency in fearing low SPD in bigs, particularly in a packed-back zone.

Coming off back-to-back elite 8's, Marymount misses MelMo's game-changing athleticism, instead opting for a well-balanced offensive attack (5 guys averaging double-digits).  The RPI will likely rise through conference play; I see a 16 RPI, 5 seed in nc's future.  I'm skeptical of the REB and PE deficiencies but love the D/ATH combos up and down the roster.

Check out RS FR Toomer's non-cancerous growth in the past year.  He's not MelMo, but 70 REB is not out of the question.  Everyone knows what a Hoerr I am for good rebounding, but nc's had a ton of success with players like Hoerr who won't get over 70.  Turcotte is a nice foil who should go well over 80.  Barnhardt's ceiling will be determined by his SPD rating; I'd like him a lot better with enough REB to sneak in some SF minutes or another 10-15 points of WE.  We'll see, but probably my least favorite Marymount G recruit of the last 4-5 seasons.

In a song: "Build Me Up Buttercup" - The Foundations.  Lots of NT's, no Final Fours.  The faithful in Marymount are aren't wanting a Final Four any less now that York has joined the D3 NT champion list, moving Wrono to the top of the Huggins List of best coaches without a title.

Destined to play in the CT final with Hood for a 1 seed.  This team has ATH, REB depth, PE, LP, and balanced defense (made exceptional due to the ATH/SPD ratings).  The P/BH isn't top shelf, but this is clearly still a team to beat, if not the team to beat.  Wood's a little disappointing as a score, but Michael Michel has more than made up for his shaky start.

Scary.  Check out Williams' 80/80 as a FR.  The other FR "Little Orlando" and Brennan are solid, but it's RS FR Gilland and Williams who will terrorize the CAC in future seasons.  This team should be even better next year than it is this year.  Ridiculous.

Fueled by the SRs recruited off Titan Fans' one NT appearance with the Thumpers, this team looks PIT bound, though the strength of the CAC could drag him into the NT if yanks can get them to 7-9 in conference play.  Wright's been a fun scorer so gar and still has some upside in pursuing the conference scoring title.

There are some decent synergies among the bigs with Lay's non-scoring package of REB/ATH/DEF looking very hopeful, one can hope his early improvements are real and not merely the byproduct of creative accounting while Balderas comes with the 66 LP.  Willer is trying to prove where there is a WIllier, there is a way to improvement, he's a well-rounded SF showing well-rounded progress, nice paired with Matter.   Leatherwood with a name that invokes the very foundation of college hoops (leather ball, wood floor), looks like he is developing into a Hood-level ATH/SPD G with some DEF upside. Next year will be a little rough, particularly on the glass, but Yanks has shown enough that with a nice class this year, he should be positioned for multiple postseasons in the future.

In a song: "Tubthumping" Chumbawamba.  This team will get knocked down a bunch of times with the schedule it has to face in the South.  A whiskey drink and a vodka drink might be necessary to make it through.  The question is if they get up again enough to hold onto a postseason bid.

This team doesn't stink.    Eye-popping ATH/SPD are their trademark, with enough other skills to keep you wear you down.  It's ridiculous how good the sophomore pair of Stephen "The Scoundrel" Harrison and Stacey "The Librarian" Brooks are.  Brooks makes me want to go back to where things made sense, a universe where a Sophomore isn't capable of scoring 16.5ppg in under 20mpg.  He plays like he's been shooting since Aught-five.  This squad should be the prohibitive NT favorite.

The two FR are ridiculously obscene.  Both are A+ recruits, even for an A+ prestige school.  This team next year will be much better than this year, even without the New World Man playing a very nice SF.  I think next year this would be a borderline NT team in d2, though it could definitely use a 2nd 70+ REB or LP guy and will have a PG void after Delaney heads back to China Beach.

In a song: "Got My Mind Set On You" -- George Harrison.  Can Stephen Harrison take this team to the title?  That should be what their mind is set on.  Anything less is a disappointment.

Linares/Gross/Williams supply the offensive firepower here; a nice combo of an 80-80 big man, a speedster guard and a athletic wing.  I think the should finish out somewhere in the 20's or 30's in RPI.

Williams might just get to 90 SPD which covers a multitude of ills.  Check out the WE's up and down the roster.  The addition of Chas McFarland is amusing if for no other reason to see if he can be successful at drawing opponent T's as his Wake namesake.  Wise has picked up 7 in LP so far and is the prohibitive favorite for 1st team all conference at PF for 1 or 2 seasons.  Grider is a pass first point guard who has developed Strong PG skills in this version of Boy Meets World.

Interesting team, zigging while everyone else has zagged to speed mania.  Instead, VJ-RIP has put together a collection of some D, good G rebounding, good shot blocking and big rebounding depth, starting 3 C's to win the REB margin by a staggering +13.5 to date.  I think the formula is way too optimistic; they can hold it together for a 40RPI, 13 seed kind of season, even in the South, but likely one of VJ-RIP or SMM doesn't get the requisite wins.

I wonder about the decision to bring in Taylor.  The Sheriff's development pattern is outstanding, but with 4 returning bigs (including monster RS FR Rogers -- I never met a 90 REB I didn't like) and only 2 G's or SF's returning, another G might have helped them more.  The one FR guard shoot, isn't developing well, and I can't pronounce his name.  There something to be said in plotting your own course when you are in a division with York and Hood.  A real PG (assuming Noel plays SG next year) is on the wish list and another year of starting 3 bigs, I guess.

Every year, SMM leaves nonconference play with a 50's RPI, every year they get it down to the 20's by the end of the year.  This year, I think, breaks that streak.  Clark is a monster, aided by a 97 stamina that covers a relative paucity of REB depth.  The G's are good, though not great at limiting TO's.  This could be an NT team again, but I'm thinking 6-10, RPI 51 and out.  We'll see.  The low WE's of the backcourt finally catch up with Lucius.

The G's are an interesting pair; Barry's kid is headed quickly for an 85 PE with decent peripherals.  Legere needs to get his ST way, way up (+3 gets him to 50?), but his good G LP might teach us something about how that plays out.  Battle is an old-school FRANCE SF, headed for 65+ REB and PE. I still remember Mitchel Thompson from season 20 (ended at 83 REB, 87 PE).  "Simpson, eh?  I like the cut of his jib."  "Sir, his family has been involved with every major event in your life; you tried to make his son your heir, his baby daughter shot you, and he looks like he's going to get to 75+ REB and 85+ LP."  "Doesn't ring a bell."

What's SMM's theme song? Senior Harry Morgan is the namesake of a character actor who played in two TV shows with memorable themes; might I suggest "Theme from Dragnet" or "Suicide is Painless (theme from M*A*S*H)?"
