   Bill Red Hay,  In 1959, a big strong centre from Lumsden, Saskatchewan was added to the Chicago lineup, having been purchased from the Montreal Canadiens. His name was BILL HAY, but he had been known as "RED" for as long as anyone could remember.
  
    Born December 9, 1935, HAY came from a family of athletes. His father, Charlie, played was a very good goaltender in Senior Hockey, while his mother, Florence Miller, was a competitive track and field star. BILL's uncle, Earl Miller, played for the Chicago Black Hawks in the late 1920s.
 
   BILL HAY made the Hawks team in 1959-60, and playing in all 70 games, potted 18 goals and 37 assists for 55 points, and was chosen the NHL's Rookie of the Year, earning the CALDER MEMORIAL TROPHY. Murray Oliver of the Detroit Red Wings was runner-up.
