The Satchel Paige world is currently accepting owners for Season 58! Great opportunities for owners who like to take on any kind of challenge. Here is a brief summary of the franchises that are currently available:

Montreal Rockets (32-130) – 1st overall pick. This franchise has been in steady decline for the past seven years when it won 114 games. There are some pieces in place for a rebuild as this club has drafted in top 5 in the last two seasons.

Cleveland Pekar (49-113) – 3rd overall pick. This club has a solid nucleus of talent in the minor leagues and has benefited from having the #2 and #1 overall draft picks in the last two drafts. This team finished about league averages in most offenses categories. Pitching needs a lot of work; however, the #1 pick two seasons ago was a starting pitcher.

Boston Torn Red Sox (55-107) – 4th overall pick. This club fell off considerably this past season from where it was a couple of seasons ago. They finished above average in most offenses categories, but near the bottom in pitching. However, pitching in the low level minors was solid, so help may already be in the pipeline.

Pawtucket Gangstas (72-90) – 10th overall pick. This franchise represents a very interesting opportunity. The 10th pick this season should be able yield a future major league contributor, and having selected in the top 6 in each of the past 4 seasons there is a solid foundation already in place. In addition, pitching was respectable at the major league level, but hitting represents the biggest need going forward.

Salem Volcanoes (76-86) 12th overall pick. This club is stuck in the middle. It will require strong leadership to first determine if there are enough pieces in place to try to contend in the short term, or to blow things up and start a rebuild. Both options are available to a decisive owner willing to step in and take control.

Toronto Falls (79-83) – 14th overall pick. This team has added 4 supplemental 1st round draft picks in addition to its regular selections in the past two drafts and is starting to emerge from the rebuilding process. They finished above .500 three out of the past four seasons and finished first or second in their division also in three of the past four seasons. The right owner can have this franchise contending right away.

San Antonio Sasquatch (Formerly Charlotte) (81-81) – 15th overall pick. Another very interesting opportunity for a new owner. This franchise has selected in the top 8 of the amateur draft in each of the past four seasons; and in that same timeframe has also added seven supplemental first round selections. After finishing with less than 70 wins the previous three seasons this team reached the .500 mark last year. This franchise should be ready to contend sooner rather than later.

Cincinnati Blades (87-75) – 18th Overall pick. Whoever takes over this franchise will follow in the footsteps of a top owner who was not able to continue in that role. This team has finished above .500 nine out of the past ten seasons and topped 100 wins twice in that stretch. Having been active in the free agent market this team is a proven winner.

Louisville Hawks (93-69) – 27th overall pick. This is the team had the best record among franchises that are available to new owners. They have enjoyed 90+ wins each of the last two seasons. Previous to that there was a lot of owner turnover, so the last owner has this club pointed in the right direction. Clearly there is talent available to win in the short term.
