Louisville reached the Final Four when coach Rick Pitino switched from zone to man-to-man against Florida.
Ohio State reached the Final Four when they held Syracuse in check the final 14 minutes of the first half with big guy and big stud Jared Sullinger on the bench with two fouls. (see: Craft, Aaron - defense - for another reason)
Kansas reached the Final Four when a) they survived games against Purdue and NC State and b) Stilman White took the court in place of Kendall Marshall (wrist).
Kentucky reached the Final Four at halftime of their game against Baylor. Up 20 at the break, the young Wildcats proved they belonged in the national semifinals.
It's on to New Orleans.
The Jayhawks and Buckeyes met earlier this season at Phog Allen. Sullinger did not play because of back spasms that forced him to miss two games in early December. Kansas head coach Bill Self didn't believe an asterisk needed to be added to his team's convincing 78-67 win at home.
Using our college basketball simulation engine we "played" the Buckeyes and Jayhawks head-to-head 2,001 times and KU coming out on top 69.3 percent of the time by an average score of 74-69.
Kentucky also played their national semifinal opponent earlier this season. The Wildcats beat the Cardinals on New Years Eve, 69-62. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist erupted for 26 points and 19 rebounds as Kentucky somehow managed to steal a win despite shooting 29.8 percent.
We simulated the Wildcats and Cardinals 2,001 times and it's John Calipari's crew advancing 72.1 percent of the time by an average score of 68-62.
Out of the four remaining teams, it came down to the final simulations to crown a winner. Kentucky has the best chance at 39.4 percent, Kansas at 39.3 percent, Ohio State at 11.6 percent and Louisville at 9.6 percent.
