College Football Week 1 Picks and Predictions

Week 1 predictions for every D-I/FBS college football game
August 26, 2013

Each Monday,'s NCAA college football simulation engine will provide you with game predictions for every D-1 FBS game that upcoming week. The college football simulation engine generates detailed information for each game including each team's chances of winning (Win%) and the average points scored for both teams. Make sure to share the college football information you gained here with your friends by either checking out our NCAA football widgets on the WhatIf To Go page or clicking on the social networking share bar at the top and bottom of this article.

Check out our 2013 College Football Season-to-Date page to follow our accuracy and for Upsets of the Week.

The statistical inputs to the thousands of college football simulations are based on rigorous analysis of each team's roster, depth charts and statistically based player rankings. Roster modifications are made in cases of injury or suspension and those players are removed from their team's game simulation for that week.

Game of the Week: Georgia at Clemson

As the 2013 college football season kicks off in a few days,'s simulation engine is looking to improve upon its college football predictions from 2012.

A quick recap of the 2012 season:

  • the engine improved year-over-year as it was accurate nearly 79 percent of the time straight up
  • that's more than a four percent increase in accuracy compared to the 2011 season
  • in games involving Top 25 teams, the sim engine was accurate over 80 percent of the time straight up

Our Game of the Week features two teams ranked inside the preseason Top 10 and a battle between the SEC and ACC. Georgia's tough early-season schedule sends them to Death Valley to tackle the Clemson Tigers.

The Bulldogs' Aaron Murray returns for his senior season (although it feels like he's been there a decade) after posting huge numbers in 2012. The quarterback finished with nearly 4,000 yards passing with 36 touchdowns.

He will enjoy the luxury of some familiar faces in the backfield. Running back Todd Gurley racked up nearly 1,400 yards with 17 touchdowns, while his partner in crime, Keith Marshall, tacked on 700-plus yards on the ground and eight more scores in their freshman campaigns.

Mark Richt's bunch may have an issue on defense, however, as the unit only returns three starters from last season. Georgia finished inside the Top 20 in scoring defense and inside the Top 10 in passing defense.

Tajh Boyd returns for his senior season at Clemson. A surprise to some as the quarterback ranked inside the 10 in passing yards per game and inside the top five in passing touchdowns. His versatility allowed him to rush for over 500 yards with 10 more scores.

The Tigers finished sixth in the nation in scoring at 41 points per game.

The team's defense returns seven starters from 2012. They finished third in the ACC in scoring defense at 24.8 points per game allowed last season.

The hyper-offense combined with an improving defense is why many experts pick Clemson to win the ACC in 2013.

We simulated the Bulldogs and Tigers 101 times and it's Georgia winning 66.3 percent of the time by an average score of 28-21.
