662 to go.
BTW:
Jeter -6
Pudge -158
Vizquel -171
Arod -242
Damon -339
Chipper -440
Vlad -493
Tejada -653
Abreu -659
of the 8 guys listed here (besides Jeter), only Arod will get to 3000-the rest will be left wanting
2012 Update:
Jeter n/a
Pudge -156
Vizquel -159
Arod -225
Damon -277
Chipper n/a
Vlad -410
Ichiro -566
Abreu -616
Tejada -638
My 2 cents:
Pudge and Vizquel are still maybe(s) given their age, specialty and desire for 3k, I am not counting them out yet. But both IMO will fall short.
Arod, yeah...
Damon is a pro hitter, but given his gypsy syndrome and Boras as his agent, it does NOT look good. But I put him on the same level as Pudge/Vizquel.
Chipper is a 2012 retiree.
Vlad is out of gas.
Abreu is almost on fumes, but too far out.
Tejada is even further out of gas........
Which brings me to Ichiro (and our topic).
566 short of 3k at 38 AND out of the leadoff spot? 566 may equate to almost 4 full seasons?
What he has going for him is the owner of the Mariners is Japanese, a fan AND waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too wealthy. He very well may mandate it?
I think Ichiro is po'd at last year and will rebound. I bet he wants to hit 3k here in the US and then go back to Japan for a season or 2?
