under contract is under contract...you can't let the Ego's of the world just jump ship because they've screwed up one situation and have a sucker waiting for them to screw up another one.....

there needs to be a reason the contract has some weight.....now, personally, I don't think a ML level player or top level prospect needs to be the bounty in this case, but I can't see just saying that nothing is the right price either
Henry granted the Cubs permission to talk to Theo; he also said he wouldn't stand in the way of an employee getting a promotion with another team.

All he had to do was say no when Ricketts asked to talk with Epstein.

This seemed to imply that, because he gave him permission to talk, something occurred with the contract.

If I'm reading it wrong, please tell me what you meant.

I don't see at all how you could infer that.

I suggest you find a better reason.....

Cubs and Sox have reached a deal.....
10/20/2011 5:01 PM
is that plain enough insinuation?

This part: "All he had to do was say no when Ricketts asked to talk with Epstein."

No, all he had to do was say "Talk all you want.  If you can come to an agreement with him, we'll talk about compensation for us allowing him out of his contract."   Which, to me, is what they did.

the beat goes on....the Red Sox thought on Wednesday the Cubs had agreed to part with McNutt, but on Thursday this idea was shot down by Chicago

meanwhile the list of people waiting to switch jobs grows by the day in waiting for this to get done.....

i don't see how the sox can come out of this without mcnutt, he's such reasonable compensation.

What is the precedent for  a team giving up a top ten prospect for hiring a guy getting a promotion from his former job?

mcnutt's a fringe top 50 prospect, not top 10.
