Also, Reynolds has a track record (it's an odd one, but it's something) and isn't 20.
True, but guys like Davis and Betemit didn't get as long of a leash as Reynolds last season. Davis found himself DH'ing and even benched vs. lefties on occasion. Reynolds glove work kept him in games. Buck values defense.

Reynolds cant field for ****. Am I wrong?

Edit: Nevermind. I just remember him playing 3B.

I get valuing defense. I like it. But Machado is still developing. If he struggles with the bat at the ML level, I feel it's perfectly reasonable to think he'll develop better in AAA. Think long-term. Esp if Davis is hitting well...they may try him at 3B again.

No matter what happens the rest of the offseason, these teams are already eliminated from playoff contention:

Oakland
Seattle
Kansas City
Chicago
Baltimore
Houston
Pittsburgh
Washington
New York Mets

I think the Nationals will be a very good team in a couple years, as long as Harper lives up to expectations, but I can't possibly see them competing in the NL East in 2012.
This needs to be brought to the front.  3 of those teams made the playoffs.  Hilarious.

Why not? Especially if they land Fielder and Werth remembers how to swing a bat.

I also never count out Oakland since there are always random seasons when they make noise with a crap roster.
You can count out Oakland in 2012!
And this.

Guthrie traded to the Rockies for crap. All because they didn't want to pay him an extra $2mil or so in arb. Wish I could say I was surprised.
And this.

Matusz supposedly looking like his old self - looks like the 'roids, errr, the off-season training program with Brady helped. Hopefully this translates into results. Having Arrieta, Britton and Matusz as the top three, with the two Korean guys would give us a shot to at least not get pummelled every night.
Arrieta, Britton, and Matusz the top 3, eh?
11/13/2012 8:51 PM
That was the plan, wasn't it?
11/13/2012 8:52 PM
I think Hammel was supposed to be in there...

I already confessed long ago to being (happily) wrong about the Guthrie trade. If you are going to pretend you saw more value in Hammel than Guthrie when that trade was made, you're full of crap.

And I too called out Got_Worms on his elimination list - I don't think he ever manned up to it.

Yep, definitely blew this one. Got Chen right (though Taiwanese, not Korean - they're all Asian) - Wada didn't even play.

Britton took huge steps back this season - I had high hopes for him. Arrieta is an enigma - I think they should trade him while he still has value, but he's a huge tease. That game in Tampa earlier in the year sums it up - breezed through 3 perfect innings, no command in the 4th, knocked around and out after 4.1 IP. He's not right mentally.

I supported the Guthrie trade on the Oriole site at the time, unfortunately not here...

Like almost everyone, I didn't see the Hammel we got coming.  But I did see the Guthrie the Rox got going, and that was good enough for me.

That's because it was Colorado. I'd have been happy with the numbers KC got from him.

I'm going to go out on a limb & state for the record, the Miami Marlins have already been eliminated from playoff contention in 2013!

Can you eliminate the O's again too, please?
