As total overall players . . . yes, they are very comparable. Bernie provided additional value as a centerfielder, and with his baserunning skills, which offset Edgar's offensive edge.
Odd . . . this sounds just like the Trout / Cabrera MVP discussion last year. Doesn't it? Which way did you lean in that discussion?

And if you read back a few pages on this thread, you'll see that I said:

Mike argued that Bernie and Edgar were comparable offensive players. They weren't. And Edgar was so much better with the bat that they weren't really that close in total value. Both Fangraphs and Baseball Reference have them about 20 wins apart in overall value.
