How is MLB going to handle it when the Rangers, Rays, Orioles, Yankees, Indians and Royals all tie for the two wildcard spots?

Dunno, but I hope it happens. There's probably some bullshit rules (H2H records etc) that will exclude some teams, which will further illustrate how dumb the 2nd WC is.

Bud is working on a solution for that scenario as we speak:

Just looked up the rules and they have it for up to four teams.  But I think it might actually be fairly doable following there three team guidlines.  Teams get designated A, B, C, D, E, F based on records and whatnot.  B plays at A, winner hosts C.  E plays at D, winner hosts F.  The two winners of the A/B vs. C and D/E vs. F games would be the Wildcards.  I think a five team tie for one wildcard spot might be chaos.

2nd wild card was a stroke of genius.   While it takes away from the NL Central race(which will have three playoff teams), you have fans that would be talking Bucs, Giants, Ravens, Browns and Chiefs football at least looking at MLB in mid-September.   That's a win for baseball.

How is 6 teams tied for 2 spots dumber than 6 teams tied for 1?

My comment was in reference to my speculation about some teams being excluded (which hopefully is wrong).

Anybody know what happens if one team clinches WC1, but 3-4 teams tie for WC2?

Wouldn't it be safe to assume that the tiebreakers work the same way for all potential wild card scenarios?

Is it safe to assume anything when Bud Selig is in charge?

I understood that - but you said it would prove how dumb the 2nd wild card is.  Care to explain how having 2 WCs would make it MORE likely that teams would be excluded in a 6 way tie than having 1?

In this case, I think so.

That should be exactly like what would have happened in a 3-4 tie for the old wild card.  The 4 way is pretty obvious - draws determine matchups/locations and you have a 4 team, single elimination tournament.  In a 3 team, 2 teams would play and the winner play the 3rd.  I think, however, that the team with the bye had to play on the road since they only had to win one game.

The schedule this year blows. WC games on two different days? Why? Now division winners get 4 days of rest. I understand giving them an advantage over WC teams, but that's a bit extreme. Make teams play ball.
