All players are free agents available for one year contracts. In this bizarro scenario, teams know ahead of time that they will get the exact 2013 production from each player.

Who gets paid the most?
You keep wanting to go back to an "all things are equal" argument. I agree that that's how Id vote for MVP but value means different things to different people in this particular circumstance. A worse player can have more value to one team than a better player to another.

If you want me to say Trout here, I'll say Trout.
My entire point is that a less valuable player cannot be the most valuable player.

You keep saying, "well, other people don't see it that way." Fine, but as we've seen with other issues (the age of the earth, for example), the mere existence of a point of view doesn't grant validity to that point of view.

In my opinion, awarding the MVP to a player who wasn't the best because he was surrounded by better teammates than the guy who was the best is a stupid thing to do. Feel free to disagree. Feel free to argue. Feel free to call me an *******.

FWIW, this is why I'm not grabbing a pitcher above all else. You named a bunch of aces. There's only 1 3b and 1 CF that did what Miggy and Trout did this year.
Did you watch the WS?   You can walk those ***** if you want.

Which is why the team with the dominant, star filled pitching rotation won the WS.

Short series.  What's Trout's WS line look like this far into his career?

So you're saying anything can happen in a small sample?

I also love how you're convinced that I have some sort of love for Trout. If the situation were reversed and Cabrera had been clearly better but not won, I'd be arguing just as hard for Cabrera.

BL, have you ever been a member of a team?

Unlikely.  You have a huge man-crush for Trout because of all his "WAR, ************!!!" attributes.

Yes

Has the most important, or valuable, player on the team always been the one with the best stats?

The most valuable player has always been the best player.

The age of the earth is a fact. There is no clear-cut definition of what the MVP is.

Haha

Very convincing! Great insight.

I believe the playoffs are largely a crapshoot. People like to say "the best pitching staff wins" but I don't really think that's as true as people make it out to be.
