Roy Halladay retiring -- HOF career? Topic

Top 5 in CY voting in 7 seasons over a nine year span.  That's impressive.

I'd vote yes.  Partly because BL says "no", and that's usually a good litmus test.  Take the opposite side of BL's argument and you'll be right most of the time.
Hilarious.

Did you vote yes for Schilling?

No.

I also voted no for Blyleven.  Who you said was a "great choice".

I love Roy Halalday, but he fell a little short of HOF numbers, alas.

Blyleven was a great choice.

Schilling - 3261 IP, 127 ERA+, 3116 K, 1.14 WHIP
Halladay - 2749 IP, 131 ERA+, 2117 K, 1.19 WHIP

Looks like Schilling was better than Halladay.

Considering who he pitched for, Blyleven should make it!

If you say so.  After all, who can question your astute knowledge of baseball?

Clearly, not you.

I would put Schilling in over Halladay, but I'm not going to waste a lot of time weighing the relative merits of 2 guys who are both nos.

Pretty sure that had nothing to do with baseball...

Halladay doesn't deserve to go in.  He just didn't pitch enough.  He was good enough.  But not enough starts, not enough wins.  He's got fewer wins and innings than Pedro, who some voters have suggested they won't vote for because he didn't pitch and win enough.  And Halladay was great, but nothing like Pedro dominant.
It would be nice if the discussion would move away from wins. Spot on with the innings, though. If he throws another 600 above average innings, his case would be much stronger. 75 or 80 career WAR would put him up there with Glavine in terms of total value but with a better peak.
Since you're so big on quantity of innings, I guess you'd toss Sandy Koufax out of the HOF in a heartbeat.  Correct?

I wouldn't throw Koufax out. And I'd vote Pedro in. But innings matter.

In retrospect, the fact that I even voted in this thread makes me mad.    It's such an obvious "no" that a discussion shouldn't even take place.   He can be in the Kenny Lofton HOF.
^^^^^^^THIS!!!
You voted yes. So maybe not "^^^^^^ THIS?"
