It's a good thing Mickey Mantle never passed the buck to Elston Howard with a runner on base.

I mean, it's not like Mantle walked over 900 times with runners on.

Mantle's teammates drove him in 31.4% of the time, Bonds' 30.3%.

Martinez only 27.5%.

More benefit to the team if he took the bat off his shoulder a bit more often.
It's like comparing a .314 hitter to a .275 hitter, no?

So you'd rather have Elston Howard up instead of Mickey Mantle? What a piece of **** Mantle was walking over 900 times with runners on and relying on Howard to go up there with his career .274 batting average. Mantle should have taken the ******* bat off his lazy, alcoholic shoulder. Oh well, maybe he was so hung over he couldn't see the ball.

Would you say Elston Howard was better than Davis, Wilson, Buhner?  I would.

Even if you wouldn't, Mantle's teammates drove him in over 31% of the time.   That's respectable.    Martinez's teammates weren't capable of 28% of the time.  So far, that's been the weakest by far.   Are you saying Martinez was so dumb that he didn't realize the guys behind him blew chunks?

Are you saying that by getting on base (regardless of how) that Martinez was hurting his team?

Simple yes or no is all that's necessary.

That's like asking, do you like grape jelly and PCP?
A simple yes or no is all that's necessary

Have I not answered this MANY times?

Who do you want swingng with RISP?   A .320 hitter or a .240 hitter?   A simple yes or no is all that's necessary.

The .320 hitter takes a walk.  Now you have 1st and 2nd with the .240 hitter coming to the plate.  Yeah, that seems like a productive way to score runs.

Mariners down by 1.  Two outs, bottom of the ninth, tying run on second.  Edgar Martinez at the plate.  Dan Wilson on deck.

What do you want Edgar to do?

BL says "Take a walk as it's better than making an out."

Which is correct.  However, EM is far more likely to drive in a run than DW.   That's where it falls apart.   He doesn't understand this.

For some reason, he believes EM will make an out.

By my calculations, in the 7,391 times that EM came to the plate during his career when he didn't walk, he got hits 30.4% of the time.  With either ARod or Junior likely on base, you tie the game a high percentage of the time in that situation.

Yet, I guess it's better to pass the buck to Dan Wilson.

EM thought Dan Wilson would join him in the HOF.

EM = bad judge of talent or selfish *****.

No, its not. You are comparing times scored not batting average.

While im not old enough to have seen Mick play live, id imagine he had better wheels then Martinez. That means more sb, more extra bases on balls in the gaps, and a better opportunity to score.

All the more reason for EM to hit rather than walk.
