Define "a lot"

I think we can agree that a lot is an amount somewhere above average.
OK.  How many walks did the "average" big league player draw?

1000 or more?
999 or less?
The average big leaguer walks about 8.5% of the time.
Does that equate to more or less than 1000 per career?
How big is the career, there, John Trollvolta?
A career lasts from their first BL appearance til their last BL appearance, Mr. Einstein.

How often were you dropped on your head as a child?  And as an adult?
So you argue relativity when talking about bum on the street/Warren Buffet...but you fail to grasp relativity now?    Shocked I am, shocked.

1000 walks is a lot for a BL player during his career.    The world doesn't let everyone play the same amount of time.   So, in order to draw 1000 walks, you have to play awhile.   That's the only way you can accrue a lot of walks.

No ****.

Relative other players with 8,000+ PA, Derek Jeter did not walk a lot.

Predictable toolishness.

Never fails.

Tell us how "a lot" can only apply to rates.

I'm dying to hear it.

Don't need to. You already successfully argued that it was a relative term.

62 players have accumulated 10,000 PA.

Wanna guess where Jeter ranks in terms of walks? 40th.

Relative other guys with a ton of PA, Jeter did not walk a lot.
2/13/2014 6:04 PM
29 have accumulate 11,000 PA.

Jeter ranks 24th in walks among that group.
2/13/2014 6:06 PM

So, if it's a relative term, am I free to apply it in the manner I choose?

Since you don't get to determine how I apply terms, I'll just say "Yes, I do."

Relative to the average BL player, anyone who drew 1000 walks did indeed walk "a lot".

Thanks for playing.

There are only two guys I'd take on that list over Jeter - Piazza and Manny.
You wouldn't take chipper Jones?
But you'd take two roiders?

are you the ghost of Swamphawk22?   Because you make about the same amount of sense.

Because I say "1000 walks is a lot of walks"?

Let's try it this way:

Say this out loud "1000 walks is not a lot of walks even though there have only been 116 players in MLB history to do it."

Did you say "****, that sounds stupid"?    If you didn't, it's because you're stupid.

Already stated by me <<Compared to the AVERAGE big league career totals, 1000 are a lot of walks. So are 999.   Legit questions....how many guys have played MLB?>> I already agreed with you. But you still want to argue. ergo: troll

So here is where you come off as a jackass and lacking in sense...like Swamp...you just talk around yourself, never even listening to what other people say and never really bothering to think about what you...or others are saying. Because after all, you are just so damn smart that no one else can possibly be right, and things are just the way you say they are...no accounting for degree, context or relativity. Truth be told...you do not appear to be not a very complex thinker and see things in black and white terms.

You strike me as a 15 y/o so, fair enough, I do feel a little bad for arguing with a teen on the internet.

My bad.

Say this out loud:

"I think Martinez walked a great deal and that's a bad thing, but I think his walk rate was perfectly acceptable."
2/13/2014 9:41 PM
Does that make any sense?

It's the MikeT way.

1) Say something totally baseless and stupid
2) get called on it
3) argue the point as long as you can
4) start talking around in circles to confuse people in hopes they forget your stupidity
5) pretend you were trolling and you said it just to get a reaction out of people
