Damn
Words are too big for Sunday morning.

Really?
Average hitter with great glove in LA until last year of contract.
average hitting stats in seatte, gets a one year from Boston and suddenly hits again
Gets to Texas and improves numbers every year AFTER peak age for players (roids?)
Pretty sure LA and Seattle aren't as good as hitting parks as Boston and Texas.  Just sayin'.

Ken Griffey didn't have a problem in Seattle.
Neither did Edgar Martinez

Piazza hit in LA?

We are talking HOF here, not just being an all-star

Not that I agree with the whole good hitting park or not, but Griffey and Edgar played the majority of their career at the Kingdome, not Safeco.

But I think the point was brought up because you were talking 'roids.

Well, Beltre played in Safeco.  Where he averaged .270 with 21hr's and 79RBI.

He averaged roughly the same with the Dodgers.  He was only 19 when he came up with the Dodgers.  Left at 25.

He's boarderline HoF'er right now.  He needs a 2-3 more season's like he's had the past few years, and he's a lock.

I'm sorry
I don't agree
I think he uses
And I don't think a HOF lock averages .270/21/79 even in the Grand Canyon.

If you have to make excuses for a player, he ain't a HOF

The more I think about it the more I don't care either that he is using something

A lock HOF does not hit like an average player for 5 consecutive years

I think you could have left it at "If you have to make excuses for a player, he ain't a HOF."

I believe, if you start with "A case can be made for player-x as a HOFer....", he's not a HOFer.    If you say "Yeah, but player-y is in", he's not a HOFer.

That seems to be what's happening here.    Has anyone watched a game and said "I'm watching a future HOFer" when Beltre came to the plate?

Since when is that the standard? Willie Mays hit .283 and averaged 25 HR and 79 RBI from 66-70. I'm not a fan of using the BA/HR/RBI line but that's what you used.

Instead of focusing on just five years, why not consider his career as a whole?

I think a guys who gets 3000 hits, close to 500 home runs, and has a two decade track record of exceptional defense at third deserves to be in.

No but, to be fair, I never would have thought that about Jeter either. His career as a whole makes him a Hall of Famer but there was nothing spectacular about Jeter's day to day play.

If Beltre gets 3000 hits and close to 500 homers, yes, obviously, he's a hall of famer.

Beltre = borderline no
