Tom Seaver had troubles with Tommy Hutton throughout his career.

Does that boost Tommy Hutton's HOF creds?

No, I'll listen to the 73% who said "Yeah, not a HOFer" not some old dipshit in China whose username sounds like a racehorse.

Well that sure is a convincing counter argument. I'll take it into consideration.
Well, it's more accurate than saying a reliever with a 1.559 WHIP had a "slightly below average" season.
Is it? I thought you had a problem with small sample sizes?

His adjusted ERA was 8 worse than league average for that one 75 inning season. Slightly below average.

MikeT...you really should invest in some reading comprehension skills. I didn't say anything. Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, and Mariano Rivera did. Undoubtedly you think you know baseball better than they do. Your resort to ad hominem attacks indicates that you know you are losing the argument.

ERA. Relief pitcher. Connect the dots.

Being too stubborn to admit you're wrong is one thing. Hanging on to an incredibly poor argument out of stubbornness is a whole other level of stupid.

Good job.

Please connect them for me, I'm interested in hearing why ERA isn't acceptable.

I never had any problems getting Martinez out.    As I'm sure countless others didn't either.

Baseball doesn't have Richard Shermans.     Everybody is the "toughest out I ever faced" or "I was very fortunate against him".

There it is.

Don't you think that's evidence that it's easier to be a relief pitcher than a starting pitcher?

I read Richard Simmons at first. Very different person.

Baseball doesn't have a Richard Simmons either.    At least I don't think it does.

WTF?

Think it through.

Put aside Schilling for the moment (we can come back to that one 75 inning season later, if you want). Put aside your rage inducing hatred of me.

Look at the average ERAs for starters and a relievers for the last 20 years. Add your 0.20 adjustment to the relievers. The average starters' ERAs are still as high or higher in every season but two.
