You haven't answered the question that I asked.  You've twisted my question into a different question and answered that.

Why won't you answer the question that I asked?

There is no yes/no answer to, "will hitters be more productive if they strike out less."

It depends. They will be if they reduce their outs. They won't be if they trade strikeouts for other outs.

So then, your answer is "I don't know"?

The answer is, "It depends."

So, no, you don't know.  You don't know if it would be good for MLB hitters to strikeout less and put more balls in play.

Got it.

Thanks.

It would not be good if they made the same amount of outs.

An out is an out.

One of your favorite stats is BABIP.  BABIP says that, on average, approximately 3 out of every 10 balls put in play will be a base hit.

So you don't know if a player reduces his strikeouts and puts more balls in play, where around 30% of those balls in play are now base hits instead of outs, if that's good or not?

Real player A struck out 133 times in Season X.
He struck out 113 times the next season.

Was he more productive in the second season?

Yes or no.

So the hitter is trading outs for hits?

Yeah, that's always better. I'm pretty sure we covered that on page 1.

Balls in play <> outs in play. You still don't understand that, do you?

You seemed confused, when you gave this answer.

Did you think that all the additional balls in play (formerly strikeouts) were going to be outs?

I don't know why you'd think I'm confused. I was clear about the distinction the first time I answered your question. "An out is an out," doesn't apply to hits. Obviously.

Here's a very simple question, requiring only a yes/no answer:

Do you think that hitters would be more productive if they struck out less?

There is no simple yes/no answer to that.

If they make less outs, they will be more productive. If they swap strikeouts for outs in play, they won't be.

I've answered.

It does not matter if hitters trade strikeouts for other outs.

It does matter if hitters trade outs for non-outs.
No, you're not answering the question that I asked.  You're twisting it into a different question and answering that.

Let's try one more time.  Please restrict your answer to either (a) I agree; (b) I disagree; (c) I don't know; or (d) I don't want to answer:

It would be in the best interests of MLB hitters to reduce their strikeouts and put more balls in play.

Agree, disagree, don't know, or refuse to answer?
What about this question?
11/5/2015 5:44 PM

Like I've said 90,000 times already, if they are trading outs for hits, great. That is clearly better. It's also irrelevant to, "an out is an out."

If they are swapping strikeouts for other types of outs, then they are not gaining anything.

Do you have a point?
