You do realize that even if reinstated, he would not be eligible to appear on the BBWAA ballot, correct?

So what? Lot's of players get into the Hall without being elected by the BWAA. Especially the ones with special circumstances.

I think it's interesting that you think Rose should be in the Hall but not Clemens/Bonds.

Is that true? I wouldn't have guessed that.

If that's the case, I don't think he's got much of a shot. The old farts on the Vets Committee won't put him in.

Rose's accomplishments on the field are worthy of the HOF.

Clemens and Bonds' accomplishments on the HOF are tainted.

Apples and oranges.

Yea, the "betting on baseball is forgivable, but roids are horrible" angle is interesting.

Phil Rizzuto, Bill Mazeroski, and the dozens of other unworthy schlubs who were voted in by the VC might disagree.

They got there in a way you're uncomfortable with, but the accomplishments are there.

Yea, but the accomplishments on the field aren't in question. If Maz bet on baseball, he gets 0 votes.

How did Rose's gambling as a manager impact his performance as a player?

How did Clemens' and Bonds' use of steroids impact their performances as players?

Apples and oranges.

Bingo.

Guys will always be looking to gain an edge.

Gambling provides a huge incentive to lose.

No, they're not.  A 'roided up player's accomplishments are not really accomplishments.

Would you be the world's smartest poker player ever if it was discovered that you played most of the time with a deck of marked cards?

Apples an oranges is right.

Gambling is a horrible problem that could destroy a sport.

PEDs are a relatively small problem, even when widely used.

Rose, Clemens, and Bonds all put up HOF numbers.

Clemens and Bonds did something that was generally accepted within the game at the time they did it. Gambling on baseball was never acceptable. If someone asked you at the time if you thought Bonds was roiding during his peak, you would have said "Yea, probably" with a smile on his face and then gushed all over his 70th homer.
