His last HR incentive bonus was given to charity.
Still counts as part of his earnings though

If he stays reasonably healthy for these last two seasons, A-Rod will almost certainly pass Ruth for 3rd all-time in HR (Ruth leads him now, 714-687).

I doubt A-Rod will catch Bonds for 1st -- he's 75 HR behind Bonds' 762, and I don't see him averaging 38 HR a season to pass him. But what if he hits, say, 50-60 HR in these two seasons, leaving him at 737-747? Assuming he's healthy, would he be tempted to come back for one season to try for the record?
Who cares? I once relished the day he'd get a shot but now it's like 'yawn'.
I'm rooting for him just to screw Bonds. The record was Bonds ultimate goal and is now his baby. I'd love to see that taken from him.
they are both ********..any particular reason you root for AROD over Bonds??

Just my opinion, but I don't think ARod cares about the record nearly as much. He cares about getting paid and living the good life and being adored by people. I think the record means far more to Bonds and thus I think Bonds would be more hurt by losing it than ARod would be by not attaining it.

I don't have a preference for either ARod or Bonds.

who really cares what either of them wants?

Can we just all agree that Bryce Harper is the greatest athlete of all time and no doubtedly gonna end his career with 800 homeruns and a .400 BA
3/29/2016 7:05 PM
No. I'm quite sure a Detroit tiger is the greatest of all time.

This is a very good point. ARod's motivation is overwhelmingly 'being liked'. Bonds motivation was overwhelmingly 'being good'. If ARod came a few short, I think he'd be fine with it.

Its a funny thought, but I think Reggie both wanted to "be liked" and "be good".

(I bet d_rock97 will rush off to wiki Reggie so he doesn't look like a 21 year old when he responds...)

I don't care what they want. You clearly missed the point of my post. I just want to see Bonds reaction if/when he loses the record.

God. That means you were were born when Kid Rock came out. Thats crazy.
3/30/2016 7:07 AM
That's a really weird association to have with that age...
3/30/2016 11:09 AM
I thought d_rock97 had something to do with 'Detroit Rock '97'. So I figured it either referred to the Wings winning that year or all the stuff Kid Rock used to talk about during live shows when he started getting big - you know, Detroit, Rock and Roll, etc.

So I assumed d_rock was from that era. When he said he was 18 I realized '97 is his birth year and d_rock probably doesn't have anything to do with Kid Rock or the Wings.
3/30/2016 11:34 AM
Jesus. He's all about Detroit. And, if you recall, KISS sang about Detroit, Rock City due to it's musical history(if you have no other reference point).

d=detriot
rock=music history
97=birth year

This is NOT some mysterious puzzle.

Considering they both surpassed "great" in their early 20's, they were obviously motivated to be a lot more than good. Bonds just didn't give a **** what people thought.
