I think it's just do to they fact statistically memphis and Iowa are good.

Iowa is very balanced, and Memphis has an amazing offense. Both teams have played a few teams, Iowa actually has a pretty good sos. And before JT started Cardale couldn't hit a receiver with a pass, the offense wasn't scoring, if not for the defense and Darron Lee they would've lost twice this season.

Again I'll try to get more factors included and see if theses rankings are outliers or teams like Iowa and Memphis are very good.

The thing is  OSU has scored 38.5 ppg, Iowa 32.85.  OSU has given up 15.125, Iowa 15.286.  In other words, OSU is scoring more and giving up less.  Iowa beat Pitt on a 57 yard FG as time expired.  Iowa beat Wisconsin in a game its only TD drive was 5 plays and 4 yards, its only FG drive was 5 plays -10 yards (so on its only 2 scoring drives Iowa amassed -6 yards), and when it didn't even score in the 2nd half.   It isn't like Iowa is crushing teams, far from it.

LOL.   Just put OSU at #1 so moranis will stop.

It has nothing to do with that.  I think his methodology is off and am trying to help him.

OK.  Just reconfigure your process so that OSU is #1 and moranis will think you re-invented the wheel.

moranis, if you think for any reason what OSU has done at any point up until last week was worth being number 1, you are nothing, but a homer, and you can't be taken serious in a discussion.

So far:

Needed an injury to their QB to beat VT
Beat N. Illinois 20-13 with that deciding touchdown being Darron Lee on defense.
Beat Indiana by 7

Never at once looking like a top 10 team with Cardale on offense.

Iowa has played much better against a strong sos.

Until OSU beats Michigan St/Mich they don't deserve #1 with the way teams like Clemson are playing, the only reason we're number 1 is poll inertia.

And the fact we may not even make it to Michigan St/Mich undefeated as I expect JT is suspended a max 2 games, Cardale will barely get us through Minn/ILL if we don't get upset by one of them.

don't list to Mike's ****.  I've said numerous times in this thread I have no issue with OSU not being 1, they should however be ahead of Iowa and Memphis should not be 5.

He ran the numbers and Iowa is ahead of OSU.    I have a bigger problem with Memphis at 5 than anything else.
10/31/2015 12:22 PM
I know he ran the numbers and Iowa is ahead of Ohio State, but maybe he ran the wrong numbers.
10/31/2015 2:48 PM
Except for a few outliers(Memphis/App State), there isn't much wrong with it.

fiddled around with the method and got this:

Rank Name F Value
1 Clemson 272.069439
2 Iowa 257.3240487
3 Ohio State 248.7237431
4 LSU 247.004877
5 Alabama 242.9681365
6 Michigan State 237.8799936
7 Notre Dame 236.4362598
8 Florida 235.4091571
9 Michigan 234.5678518
10 Baylor 233.3381061
11 Memphis 228.6025932
12 Mississippi 227.729404
13 TCU 224.1171399
14 Oklahoma 221.6771291
15 USC 221.4879267
16 Utah 221.2640009
17 Stanford 220.1574076
18 Oklahoma State 219.6044462
19 Mississippi State 219.3527303
20 North Carolina 215.9879106
21 Navy 212.0414633
22 Penn State 209.6659352
23 Houston 207.7685738
24 Toledo 207.2947217
25 Appalachian State 206.1322534
26 Florida State 205.7513385
27 Texas A&M 203.861936
28 Wisconsin 202.6816728
29 Temple 200.5716209
30 Northwestern 199.8143192

App State is still an outlier, really can't do to much since they do have great stats, which the computers like.
11/2/2015 5:34 PM
No good.  Iowa is still ahead of OSU.   Fix it.

LOL.

11/2/2015 7:52 PM
that one is better, though Baylor and Stanford both seem a bit low and App St. doesn't belong anywhere near the top 25.
11/3/2015 8:18 AM
I'm guess the formula is already giving teams a ton of credit for beating rotten opponents, so why give them even more credit for compiling great stats against that same rotten opponent? Maybe lessening one of those factors would help regulate teams like Iowa, Penn St., App. St., and the like.

everything is sos weighted it's just that teams like app st are just destroying their schedule by so much they are still liked even though they have a weak sos, adding anymore value to sos and teams like USC, Texas Tech, and West Virginia start to shoot up the rankings.
