Catchers

Jose Azue 3 cents-Right hand bat, who hit .274 with 18 HR's and good defense was a nice fit in a Pitchers Park at 3 cents.

Jesse Gonder 1 cent- Handed bat, who hits over .300, and can be counted on again next year. Only down side is that Jesse's limited PA's in 63 will require a 3rd Catcher for the Team.

1B

Fred Whitfield 3 cents-Although, only a .240 hitter in 63, has a 500 Slug averg., which will be particulary valuable when the Team plays on the road in Hitters Parks.

Charlie Dees 1 cent-.307 averg. will make Charlie the starting 1B in most of the Teams Home Games where average is more important than power.

Gene Oliver 2 cents-Was selected because he can Catch. D Throwing will limit his usage behing the Plate, but will certainly see action against Handers at 1B

Don Pavletich 1 cent-Was selected as a future 2cond Catcher.

2B

Bobby Richardson 5 cents-Paid a little more for a guy who will be above average at his Position for the next 3 years.

3B

Ron Santo 15 cents-You get what you pay for, and in this case it was for one of the League's top hitters, who is a good fielder, at the important 3B Position. Likely to be the Team's Clean Up Hitter, now and into the future.

RF

Al Kaline 11 cents-Will be the Gamblers number 3 Hitter. Good all around hitter, who hits both for average and power. Excellemt Glove for a Corner OFer, who will help the Pitching Staff.

LF

Leon Wagner 3 cents-A great bargain at 3 cents for the guy who will be the Teams Number 5 hitter. Hits .294 with 27 HR's in 63. but will be a defensive liability at times.

CF

Don Lock 1 cent-Excellent defensive OFer who hits .251 with 27 HR's in 63. But the Team will have to be patient with his 170 Strike Outs.

Pitchers

Jim Maloney 13 cents-Wasn't in a position to go after the Top Guns-Koufax-Marical, but have that #1 Guy to give them more than they might ask for in a head to head.

Ralph Terry 3 cents-Very affordable #2 man, who will give the staff plenty of quality ings in 63

Hal Woodeshick 3 cents-One of the League's Top Closers, who could very well lead the league in Saves in 63.

Hank Aguirre-5 cents-Good Hander, who will be a starter this year and a Reliever in future years.

Tom Cheney-2cents-Top Reliever in the League, who has 137 ings in his arm.

Ron Taylor 2 cents-Will be the second part of the set up tandem, along with Cheney. Has a number of Future Years ahead, with the Gamblers in their Pen.

Don Cardwell 2 cents-Good Starter in 63, who will go on the IR for 64 and return for a productive Season.

Tommie Sisk 2cents-A competent Long Man, who would also be capable as a Set Up Man, if needed by the Team.

Pitching is going to be a problem in year one, the line-up however is relatively solid with promising players in Freehan, Cash, Flood, and speedster Willie Davis. Ron Hunt is starting off a long career with some good years at 2b and Wilbur Wood and Jimmy Hickman will have some great years in the future.

Long time solid SS Ed Brinkman will captain the infield that still needs some help at the hot corner
