Clearly there is some history of jokes based on liberals not liking football and considering it to be militarisitc.

And that is just part of the issue.

As I said there is a sport with no heros among the children and no popularity among the children suddenly being played in large numbers.

So I maintain that the belief is there and is known but because it is an abstract concept it is hard to research.

kids wear soccer jerseys with players names on them all the time.  The Sounders in Seattle have a huge following...great attendance...many leagues....you simply do not know what you are talking about.

In this day and age?  Abstract concepts being hard to research?  The problem is you are not a very good researcher.

Finding things in modern times is easy. Finding things from the 80s that are not mainstream becomes problematic.

After 30 years of pushing soccer on kids it is more popular.

Ask 100 people in the mall a simples questions...Name 2 members of your cities Football Team, Baseball Team, Basketball Team and Soccer Team.

I bet soccer is least known.
