Going to take the opportunity here to ask a question.

What effect does the pitcher's field/range grades have on defense? Is this also affected by the era of the pitcher?

The pitcher's field/range ratings are only relevant for his own defensive performance (which, given the number of plays a pitcher is involved in defensively, is not a very big factor...I literally never consider a pitcher's defensive ratings when choosing who to draft on my team.)  They have zero impact on the rest of the team.

Most useful thing about a pitcher's defensive stat is identifying them when you get them in AAA
