"So I was playing around making a new team in the future ..."

Awesome!  Can you tell us who is going to win the World Series?

Mantle is OK for the money, but there are half a dozen 1b I'd rather have in the $3-$4m range.

I agree - looking at Mantle's numbers (especially in pitching-dominated 1967) I agree he's a good value, but you can get good production in an $80-$100 mil league for under $3 million.

For an OL team in the right ballpark, I'd take the 1918 Walton Cruise or 1900 Mike Donlin in a strict R/L platoon with my best AAA hitter at 1B for between $2-2.6m.

Both of them from a recent playoff bound OL team:

Mike Donlin '00 (L) CF* 4 90 417 397 22 95 0 .338 .362 .574 2.59M
Walton Cruise '18 (L) RF* 5 90 428 401 16 76 0 .312 .355 .481 2.00M

I like using alot of AAA in an open league as well, but to ask for over 200PA gambling on a single position is risky to me.  You look like you don't mind playing someone out of position but you can very easily end up with the only halfway decent person having a D/D- fielding and then playing him out of position could cost you more runs that he is producing.

On most of my OL teams I assume 200 PA per AAA player. On the team above I didn't have a single full time hitter:

Name (Bats) Pos Order % PA AB HR RBI SB AVG OBP SLG $
George Grantham '29 (L) 2B* 1 90 592 513 13 65 0 .283 .378 .441 4.75M
Roy Cullenbine '46 (S) 1B^ 2 89 538 449 25 82 0 .372 .468 .581 4.44M
Babe Ruth '18 (L) LF* 3 90 577 515 28 99 0 .311 .383 .579 4.37M
Mike Donlin '00 (L) CF* 4 90 417 397 22 95 0 .338 .362 .574 2.59M
Walton Cruise '18 (L) RF* 5 90 428 401 16 76 0 .312 .355 .481 2.00M
Hank Thompson '53 (L) 3B* 6 98 535 459 16 80 0 .316 .404 .458 4.19M
Rick Wilkins '93 (L) C * 7 100 527 473 17 84 0 .311 .374 .478 5.55M

Sometimes when I get tired of people I go into the future to mock them. "Ha ha ha! You're old!" Then I come back.
I prefer travelling BACK in time, and telling those I meet how useless their lives will be in the future.

Poster in my classroom with a big picture of french fries.  "Not everyone gets to be an astronaut." i shared that today with a senior who was going on and on about not getting into the right college...not that she knows what the right college is.
