Great Baseball Sayings and Curious Facts Topic

The two pitchers are Dick Barrett (I have him on one of my progressive teams, can't wait for that season) and Gordon Rhodes.

It could be someone like Maddux or Glavine. I would say Mussina, but I know he did relieve. You'd think it would be somebody without elite stuff.
I had no idea, so I looked it up, and it turns out Mussina only had 1 relief appearance. The right answer has been said, though
If you read Living on the Black, this is mentioned. Mussina got shelled in 3 consecutive outings in late August, got demoted out of the rotation, but pitched really well in his first appearance out of the bullpen and was immediately moved back into the rotation.

It is Glavine - 283 game appearances, all starts.

1.) Ken Griffey Jr (hat tip to Bill James)
2.) I don't know...but the name that comes to mind is Don Sutton
Yes,it is Junior that was the second best LH batting LH throwing outfielder born in Donora, PA on Nov. 21. The first was Stan Musial.

And yes, I copied that one word for word from Mr. James.

Well that's definitely a typo.

If he won 300+ games in 283 starts, he is by far the greatest pitcher of all time.

Dick Barrett was 8-20 in 1945

Gordon Rhodes was 9-20 in 1936.

I thought the third pitcher was Roy Wilkinson in 1921 - an appalling 4-20, but he pitched in four games in 1922 and went 0-1 so I was mistook to think that there were three.

Sorry, that was a typo - I meant to write 683 - which I somehow read wrong from 682 on baseball-reference, and then typed even that incorrectly. Not sure what happened there. Yes, 682 starts. No relief appearances.

Name a Hall of Fame third baseman who was left-handed.

What Hall of Fame pitcher said the following quote? "How dumb can the hitters in this league get? I've been doing this for fifteen years. When they're batting with the count two balls and no strikes, or three and one, they're always looking for the fastball and they never get it."
