My Anna Maria team in Knight regularly has the top RPI after non-conference play, but it takes a huge dip during the conference slate. We have upcoming games against teams with a 1-12 and 3-11 record. I'm curious to see how far the RPI (and SOS, which sits at 3) will fall after these two contests, and I'll post here for anyone else who may be interested.

similar has happened with my Oklahoma state team...I went 10-0 in non con and my rpi was around 105.  after i went into big12 play and lost my first 2 games, my rpi was in the mid 50s.

Yanks, what was your SOS after 10-0? What is it now you are 10-2? What were the RPIs of the teams you lost to

What you're describing is exactly the opposite of the OP's point.  So.....maybe not so similar really.

That's a pretty bad schedule to go 10-0 and not even be under 100 rpi.

You know you can actually control your non-conference schedule don't you?

On the surface, yes.  But, it's entirely possible that he and his conference mates are those who ALL schedule weak like that, so when they hit conference play they end up facing nothing but teams with gaudy records.  RPI and SOS drop like a rock.  It's simple math, it works, and I'm surprised that more conferences never did it in the past.

However......now that RPI is no longer king when it comes down to at-large bids, and the PR is the end-all-be-all, whatever little formula Seble put together to rate the games you play, teams you beat, etc., may make that strategy a lot less workable than it used to be in the past.  As it probably should be.  It's not obsolete....yet.

That's not the reality of that conference.

Does anyone have any thoughts on exploiting the difference in RPI and PR?

sos was in the 300's, 320 maybe?  RPIs of the teams were top 50

Don't wanna be one of those people, but the RPI of the teams in your NC schedule are no way near 50.  Closest team was your first game and he's at 66 RPI.  Rest of them are between 150-300.  SOS horible + 10-0 start would equal around 100 - 125 RPI.  No that your playing in conference games your SOS increases along with RPI.

It'll take a big hit.  I just beat 2 sub 200 RPI SIMS and went down 32 spots, than turn around and beat a ranked opponent and shot up 20 spots.  Just like real life RPI crazy even if winning big against shitting teams.  I personally don't like it.

Gladly, it only went down to four and is now back up to two!

That is the RPI... If you mean SOS, that's at nine currently after being at three. Not sure what it was immediately after the two games.

Don't wanna be one of those people, but he was correct when he said the RPI's were top 50.  Read the question again.  He was asked what the RPI's of the teams he lost to were.  He said top 50.  He was correct as his two losses were in "conference" play, not "nonconference" play.  And those two teams had top 50 RPI's.  Thank you, have a nice day, and good night.
