Pulling down a D-2 to D-3 Topic

If a player at the D-2 level is still available after signing has started, but their coach doesn't give you much of a shot in the e-mail, do you really still have a chance? Would it be better just going for a safe solid D-3 player?

You probably shouldn't put out there how much money you have left. Gives people free information if they choose to battle you.

Still, it's probably for the best that you edited that part out. I haven't coached D-3 in so long that I don't think I can be much help on the core question you ask, though.

What was the message you received? If the message is along the lines of: "You are a back-up, if the other options fall through he might consider you" than you can either pull the player down or continue to wait to see if he will drop. If the message was something like "he will never play for XXX school" then you don't have a shot and should move on to a different option.

Like what ggallagh said if the email says you're a back up option or the like, they can be pulled down with 10 evals at the D3 level.  Sometimes if a player is within 70 miles they will just let you recruit them like as if they were at the D3 level, accept visits.  Sometimes you'll hear don't call me again or something similar, or don't return your call and your wasting your money on them.

10 scouting trips usually helps to secure a D2 if they say you're a backup option ?

The majority of the time, yes. Sometimes it can take 15-20 but there's no way too know how many you'll need ahead of time.
