Who would you prefer? Topic

Two entirely hypothetical D3 players; none of my worlds are recruiting right now.  Player A is an all-around Stud, B is a potential NPOY candidate who meets most coaches minimum requirements for ATH/DEF, but for many is not far above them.  This is in a vacuum, assuming you know nothing about the rest of your team.  I realize that makes it a bit of an unrealistic question, but still interesting in terms of what kind of guy you would like to build your team around.

  A B
ATH 65 45
SPD 80 80
REB 30 1
DEF 65 45
BLK 30 30
LP 25 55
PER 75 99
BH 85 99
Pass 70 40
STM 90 90

They're both great, but I'd prefer player A in a vacuum

For D3 -- B. With that speed & PER & BH, he would not miss a shot in D3 (the LP would help too). His athleticism would not detract enough to matter at that level. A's superior defense is not enough for me to make it a call to agonize over. But I'm a sucker for recruits with great handles.

I just wonder, in d3, how a difference in BH of 14 plays. I've never done a study on that, so the 99 to 85 BH difference is kinda mehh in comparison to the strong ATH-DEF advantage. The difference in shooting is something I can speak to, and it's (depending on how you play, I suppose) a difference of ~.05% makes

Sorry...I was still thinking of 85-99 difference on the per. 75-99 is more drastic than a .05%, more like a .08 or .09

I have this player now

Athleticism 42
1

Speed 77

Rebounding 2
1

Defense 43

Shot Blocking 6

Low-post 1

Perimeter 91

Ball Handling 94

Passing 46

Work Ethic 79
5

Stamina 74
2

Durability 64
1

FT Shooting C+

So, very close to the player B, without the LP and he is good but plays a bit limited.

How do they shoot free throws?

I'd go with B, b/c the rest of my team would be elite defensively. He is unstoppable!

Since they both seem pretty good at everything, let's say they both shoot about 75%.

I picked A.  But I think if you would have made A's PER a little lower, it would have been more difficult.  A is a stud PG, who could also play SG and can play defense. B is a stud SG.  I would prefer a great PG to a great SG on my teams any day.

At this level (or above), I take A.

A is above average defender and an above average offensive player.

B is average defender that can hold his own, but you get an potential national player of the year candidate that nobody would be able to stop. And he's not too too far off from player A on Ath/Def.

B's offensive production would far outweigh his defensive production compared to Player A.

Easy choice, I'll go with B.
