Southern Mississippi has hired Iowa St. assistant Doc Sadler.  He was previously the head coach at Texas-El Paso and Nebraska

Three openings left....Maine, Coppin St, and Florida A&M.     Coppin and A&M are both MEAC members.  I guess it's the trickle down effect , but it seems that a MEAC school is always the last one to fill a coaching vacancy

Orlando "Bino" Ranson: A current assistant at the University of Maryland, Ranson has strong ties to the Baltimore-Washington area, having coached for two seasons at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. He has played a major role in helping Maryland sign back-to-back top-25 recruiting classes in 2012 and 2013. Ranson led the recruitment of current Terps Charles Mitchell and Shaquille Cleare.

Larry Stewart: Currently in his fifth season with Bowie State and his third as Associate Head Coach. A standout player at Coppin State from 1988-1991, Stewart led the Eagles to their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 1990 and first ever National Invitational Tournament in 1991. He was a two-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Year and named Black College Player of the Year in 1991, also winning the John B. Wooden Award. Stewart ranks third all-time at Coppin State in scoring (1,824) and first in rebounds (1,052). He played in the NBA for seven seasons (1991-1997) with the Washington Bullets and Seattle Supersonics.

Eric Skeeters: A current assistant coach at George Mason and Coppin State alum, Skeeters joined the Patriots following four seasons at the University of South Florida. As a member of the Bulls’ staff from 2009-13, Skeeters helped lead the BIG EAST squad to its first NCAA Tournament bid in 20 years. It came in 2012, when the Bulls defeated California and Temple before falling to Ohio in the round of 32.

Clifford Reed: A veteran with over 20 years of basketball coaching experience, Reed is the current assistant coach at Savannah State. Reed was the head coach at Bethune-Cookman from 2002-11, where he led Bethune-Cookman to its first MEAC regular season title in school history and a trip to the NIT in 2011. He has also served as an assistant coach at Georgia Southern and Bethune-Cookman. Reed was named MEAC and NABC District 15 Coach of the Year in 2011 and College Insider Coach of the Year in 2006.

Michael Grant: Currently he’s the head coach at Division II Stillman College in Alabama where he guided the Lions to a 17-12 record this season and the quarterfinals of the SIAC tournament. During the 2010-11 season, he guided the team to a 24-8 overall mark, a 19-5 conference record, second place in the SIAC and to the regional final of the Division II South Regional. In addition to serving as a head coach at Southern and Central State, Grant has also coached atKentucky State University, Alleghany College, Cleveland State University, and the University of Toledo as an assistant.

Coppin State will announce their new coach at a press conference on Monday, May 5

Bob Walsh, the men’s basketball coach at DIII Rhode Island College for the last nine seasons, is expected be named the next head coach at the University of Maine.

A source with knowledge of the situation, who asked not to be identified, said the deal was completed on Friday after Walsh visited the Orono campus.

UMaine Director of Athletics Karlton Creech would neither confirm nor deny Saturday morning that Walsh has been offered or has accepted the position.

“We are still in the process of hiring a coach,” Creech said in a text message.

Other media outlets reported Saturday afternoon that Walsh will be UMaine’s next coach.

UMaine sources confirmed Walsh visited campus Friday, one day after Northeastern University associate head coach and former Stonehill College head coach Dave McLaughlin was in Orono to meet with UMaine officials.

McLaughlin was informed Friday that Walsh had agreed to become the Black Bears’ head coach.

UMaine is expected to introduce Walsh on Monday.

Reportedly Coppin will not be hiring Bino Ranson, dunno if that's because he dropped out or they dropped him.

Best guy on that list that Coppin could have hired, IMO. Need a guy that can recruit the crap out of Baltimore and Washington for that job.

Bob Walsh’s task at Maine will be daunting. Three of the school’s top four scorers from a year ago – Dimitry Akanda-Coronel, Shaun Lawton and Xavier Pollard – are transferring. The Black Bears have never reached the NCAA tournament.

The next signing period for men’s basketball recruits is May 21, which would give Walsh roughly two weeks to try to fill out his first roster.

Right decision but what a bizarre time. Makes you wonder if something went awry in a meeting or something.

Right decision but what a bizarre time. Makes you wonder if something went awry in a meeting or something.

Per the press conference the AD "changed his mind".  Which makes no sense unless you are familiar with the AD at OSU.

Well might have to do with 3 players they were counting on to not suck...transferring or going pro or joining the state road crew not to have to play for Robinson.

Maybe something came out in an exit interview with one of those players? Don't know but they are going to suck something awful next year no matter who coaches them. I think their top returner now played 11 mpg last year?

They have zero talent coming back.   Next season is going to be an absolute train wreck.

The AD claims that he just changed his mind, which seems implausible.  Your exit interview scenario makes a lot of sense to me, but I think most OSU boosters are wondering why he was going to be retained in the first place since they were going to suck next year even without the transfers.
