hacker, you get a press team's hopes up when you start a freshman PG.
Then you pull him out of the lineup.  DAAAAMMMMNNNNIIIITTT!!!!
after my game with greenhawks, I knew I had to make the change.

The crazy thing is it seems the only time I see press teams is in Yarnell or in the NT. Why everyone isn't running press in HD kills me.
ive had absolutely no luck with press teams, ever.  some of my most talented D2 teams were press teams and it seemed like even when those teams were led by seniors and juniors with good IQs that when it got down to crunch time they'd all foul out.

much the reason I still run the combo. The combo was king when potential manifested itself back in the day, but I think it's still viable. You just gotta work those newbies in when you can with PT.

I actually prefer to play against press teams, especially when I have one primary scorer (cough....cough.....Arthur Brown) - Good zones or good man-to-mans usually are our downfall over at Longwood U.

Just got done game-planning our game. Holy frick!  With your 8 upperclassmen and studs, once you figure it out, you're the team to beat this year in post season.

+1000, says the coach of talented yet underachieving press teams.

That's a big assumption that we are going to "figure it out" :P

We are 2-4 but we've played 6 ranked teams, lost twice in OT, and another by 5...so I'm not too concerned....yet...but our defense has definitely struggled compared to where I thought it would be given that we have some good defenders and are led by upper classmen.

Good news is we are still improving at a great clip.  We are +10 thru 6 games, and that includes a walkon and Golden who is maxed out.

I wouldn't be surprised if we made a long run in the postseason but I also wouldn't be surprised if we went out early.

Bellarmine's R Walsh buried a 3 from the left wing with 10:17 left to go in the 1st half to tie the game at 18. And then it happened... Longwood would win the next 10 minutes 28-6 punctuated by 3 consecutive 3's to close the first half by 3 different players not named Arthur Brown. It was over right there. Or so you thought. With 12:50 left to go in the 2nd half and Longwood up 47-29, Bellarmine's reserve PF J Kenny went down with an injury after a cheap shot from reserve PG R Sullivan. This lit a fire in Bellarmine's *** and they went on a 14-0 run to cut the margin to 47-43 with just under 8 min to go. They couldn't get any closer as Longwood was solid from the line going 22-27 for the game led by R Patterson hitting 8-9 most of those in the last 8 min.

In a game of talent vs home court advantage, the talented R Golden hit clutch 3's to stop any run Harding would make. NJ Tech would use a 10-1 run to grab a 16-9 lead at the 10 min mark of the first half. Then the ebs and flows began as Harding would chip away the lead and R Golden would nail the big shot. Harding's C Roszell made a steal and a layup to cut the game to 6 and grab momentum heading to the half. But R Golden nailed a 3 as time expired to let the air out of the building. With 8 min left to go in the game, Harding was hanging on to the rope down 7 when Golden nailed another 3. The final dagger came after D Turnipseed connected on a hook from the baseline to pull Harding back within 6 with 5 min left. R Golden responded with another 3 20 sec later and the rout was on. Harding was a dismal 21-50 from the field, 2-10 from 3, and 6-13 at the line... shooting in their own building.

W Sams scored 20 and directed the Incarnate Word attack while A Martini added a double-double in a dominating 16-point win at home over Bowie St. As expected it became foul-a-thon with these 2 pressing teams as they combined for 51 fouls resulting in 65 FTs attempted. But the difference was not there nor the FT line. I-Word made their shots and they were easier shots getting 17 assists (7 from POG W Sams) to go 28-56 (50%) and 6-11 from 3. While Bowie St shot a dismal 22-58 (38%).

If that's the case, you need to set all his practice minutes to zero immediately.

To win the Yarnell, not only do you have to be good, you gotta be lucky as evidenced by Longwood's games with Bowie St and Harding. Congrats Longwood and coach bbunch on your Yarnell title. More summaries coming later.

Harding SR and leading scorer C Rozell was called with a reach foul (his 5th) on the road with no time on the clock and Longwood's PG R Patterson stepped to the line as both teams looked on from the bench and nailed 2 clutch FTs to send it into OT. With Rozell gone and A Brown burning up the nets, the OT period was just a formality as the winner had already been declared. The game was a contrast of styles with Harding attacking the rim and cleaning the glass while Longwood's guards dazzled with crisp passes and outside shooting. Harding seized control early scoring 8 of the game's first 10 points and eventually forging to an 18-11 lead midway through the half. Longwood made a 9-0 run spurred by A Brown and R Patterson over the next 3 min to grab a brief lead at 20-18. Harding got composed and closed the half on a 13-6 run to lead 31-26 at half. 2nd half was similar in Longwood made a run to grab a brief lead only to see Harding take control and go up 50-39 with 10 min left. Longwood battled back again and took the lead 56-54 with 1:27 on another A Brown 3. Harding countered by attacking the rim and Turnipseed nailed what appeared to be the game-winner with 5 seconds left to go up 58-56. Then the phantom foul. Without Rozell, Patterson and Brown picked Harding apart to win going away in OT. A Brown earned POG with 25, but it was Patterson's clutch FTs (going 7-8) and passing (6 assists) everyone will remember.

There's no doubt both davefilby and greenhawks have respected dynasties justified by their many appearances in the Yarnell. But as with death and taxes, when they coach against each other, greenhawks team almost always wins. Incarnate Word traveled to Louisville, KY and got a butt-whipping. Bellarmine's press frustrated I-Word in the first half holding them to 11-30 shooting (0-5 from 3) to build a 38-28 lead at the half. After a spirited halftime speech from davefilby, I-Word came out like gang busters in the 2nd half to get within 2 (46-44) with 12 to play after a W Sams 3 from the left wing. That's when D Burch came off the bench and earn POG by leading the Knights on a 17-4 run and they never looked back in a 20-point rout.

Bowie St's hard run this year in the Yarnell continued as they were out-classed by the talented New Jersey Tech. The game was locked in a defensive battle for a half as neither team could find an open look and Bowie St capitalized on 10 NJT 1st half turnovers for 14 points and led 25-24 at the half. But NJ Tech found their stroke in the 2nd half and it was a role player, J Wilkey, who really stepped up by scoring 8 of his 13 points, leading NJ Tech over a dominating 17-3 6 min run to open the 2nd half. Bowie St would rally and get within 6 at 48-42 with 11 min left. Then the monkey jumped on Bowie St. NJ Tech started getting free shots and banging 3-pointers and getting to the line on tired defenders. J Wilkey earned POG.
