Re Complaints About GD's Inconsistency... Topic

Maybe it's skill... Maybe it's luck...

I'm watching something unfold in Bryant right now that really puts the crapiness of this current engine into factual perspective.

It's quite unbelieveable honestly.

If your team is less than 50 overall team rating points than another team you should get beat 95 out of 100 times but instead its a 51-49 that you'll win if its a non sim coach. The engine is great for being an underdog as I learned my first few seasons in Willamette but there's something wrong with the amount of upsets to inferior teams.

OK...I have kept sorta quiet here, but I think I need to chime in with my $.02...

1st...Let me say that I PREFERRED the old engine as far as ability to manage how you wanted to play. If you wanted to pass to your TE a ton...we had ability to do that. We have gone over ad naseum the old engines advantages over the new engine. I would like to have more control over my team in the new update...and it seems norbert is headed in that direction.

Now...that being said...I really don't get where all the bashing of this current engine comes from. Maybe I am in a huge minority, but I rarely if ever see games where my team is losing as a HUGE favorite. Do I lose some games that don't make sense? Yes...BUT VERY VERY VERY RARELY! I find that if I have the better team, I am winning basically every game I am supposed to win...and I lose when I am close or less talented than my opponent. Isn't that what the engine should do? When the engine 1st debuted...YES...crazy *** $hit happened all the time. Since they made changes shortly after that...I have found this engine to be pretty accurate on game outcomes far more often than they spit out something bat$hit crazy.

Sexy flexy...you know I love ya like a fat kid loves cake! However...I wouldn't say "nobody" knows jack about this engine. Do I know EVERYTHING about this engine...HECK NO! Do I know more than most? I personally didn't think so...but maybe I do? I have won 16 NC's now....every last one in this current engine. Did I get lucky 16 times? Or am I doing things in this engine that others aren't? Guys like Nelson and Reid figured out that you could run run run all day in the old engine. (I name those 2 because those are the 2 that come to mind when I think of who crushed the old engine). They knew you could JUST look at Str/Blk for OL and that things like GI, Tech, and Ath meant nothing. We also learned Str at RB was HUGE...even if it wasn't a "core". Maybe some people aren't looking at the right secondary attributes? Maybe they still see how they did things in the old engine...and wonder why they don't work in the new one.

I know people say "dynasty's are now dead" in this game. They are? Look...maybe nobody will EVER build dynasty's like Nelsons or especially Reids Maryville team...but to say dynasty's are dead is factually incorrect. After my Capital team won the NC a season back, we had won 6 NC's in 10 seasons. That's not a dynasty? At Valdosta I have 3 NC games with 2 wins in 8 seasons...that's not a dynasty? At Winona, we have been to 5 NC games with 3 wins in 9 seasons...dynasty...no?

I will say that at the D1a level...it's INCREDIBLY tough to compete for the NC year in and year out. I think you 100% CAN build a dynasty at all levels below D1a..but I am pretty sure you can't do it at D1a for a variety of factors. Mainly the talent difference can be so small in many cases that outcomes are indeed "coinflips". You also have to schedule perfect and have everything fall your way since there is no playoffs.

Last...we are wasting a lot of breathe on something that is going to change anyway...myself wasting breathe included! I have always said I play this game 99% for the recruiting aspect...which is still the part that MOST of us don't want to see touched. If the engine spits out a result that matches my recruiting efforts more often than not...I am 100% fine with it. So put me in the small minority who think this engine isn't a "joke" Could it be better....yup! Is it awful with no rhyme or reason to anything...I guess if you convince yourself of this...it must be true. I just happen to believe otherwise based off my personal experience...
I agree.  There is certainly a decent amount of randomness, but there are some teams that are consistently in the NC title game.  RC-Morehouse in Bryant has WON four consecutive NC titles and is in the title game again.  Jaxbaker-SMSU in Bryant is another coach that won three straight NC titles fairly recently.  tkechub-Penn St in wilkinson has been in five NC title games in the past 10 seasons, awags-Penn St in Yost has been in three of the last five seasons(won two), badnewz-Richmond in Yost has been in eight of the last 11(won 5), Kilgo-West Liberty State in Yost has been in three of the last six.  This is what I have seen in the worlds I am in.

Look at who Morehouse is playing in Bryant...

Any of you engine know-it-alls want to explain how the hell that happens

I'd really love to hear that
6/16/2012 12:55 AM

Hey Flexmagnum, I'm seeing two strong teams go at it. What am I missing?
6/16/2012 1:21 AM
Oh, I dunno, the absurd WR stats and the ratings of those WR's...

Explain...

Don't worry, I'll wait

Wow!
Exactly my friend...

Engine = Failure

Lol

Why would "hands" drop for a WR? That's what's got me stumped.

No different than a team running 4 man fronts with only 3 DL on their roster shutting down my running game.  There's lots of fail to go around in this engine.

This happened to me.  And his OL was horrible and he ran all over me.   We should be able to exploit obvious weaknesses, not be penalized for doing so

+1

That was another great thing about GD1.0 that was taken from us, when you saw a glaring weakness, you could exploit it, and it'd show up in the game.  Not so much anymore.

I wish Snake was back to tell us what we really need to know !(inside joke if you haven't been around long) !

I absolutely believe there are several coaches who "DO KNOW JACK" about this engine.   I did not play under the old engine, but the more I play and the more I hear from the coaches who did, the more I understand the complaints/issues/differences.

Its pretty clear that the passing game has some advantage in this current engine, but that does not mean everyone can pass like a crazy fool.  There are a few coaches who have hit on the right combinations and absolutely destroy opponents.    Its also clear that you absolutely CAN run the ball in this engine.  Again, not everyone can do it.

I do believe that talent is king, but there are some coaches (dare I say....the great coaches) who are able to get more out of their players than the skills/attributes might warrant, when viewed by other coaches.  It seems to me that that is like real life.  Top 5% of coaches get more out of their players than other coaches could do.

In summary, the point is that the great coaches will find a way to win, within the limits that the game provides.  The rest of us will just keep trying and maybe, with enough analysis and effort, find the "key points" that will allow us to become great coaches also.
