Accepting something as "inevitable" is not the same as endorsing it, or wanting it to happen quickly.

If you have severe financial issues and are unable to pay your mortgage for a number of consecutive months, you might come to realize that foreclosure of your mortgage and losing your house is "inevitable".  If you jump out of an airplane and your parachute fails to open, you may realize that death is "inevitable" when you hit the ground. 

It doesn't mean that you are looking forward to either outcome and want them to happen quickly.

Hmmm, seems different than your examples. If the vast majority of the population sees a change as inevitable *because* the majority of the population is in favor of the change, then it follows that society is in favor of the change. Throwing the entire "society isn't ready for this" argument out the window.

Society largely doesn't care.    But the whole "inevitable" statement is stupid.
