My favorite part of this thread might be Mike repeatedly mentioning that he really doesn't care too much one way or the other about this topic and then arguing for over 3 months.
It's so ******* awesome.
I think at one point he did leave, then made fun of me for continuing to argue, then came back and argued some more.  For 2 more months.

It never really "became" anything.   Life is unfair and everyone isn't granted the same rights as everyone else.   Deal with it, eat a bullet, take it to the Supreme Court, jerk off to fat chicks, just do whatever you need to do.    Just don't expect me to care if you have "equal rights".
I'm fully aware you don't care whether homosexuals have equal rights.

Don't limit it to homosexuals.  I don't care if YOU have equal rights either.

So why argue about equal rights for 3 months?

I did.  I left for about a month.   I forget what biz/BL we're arguing about(I think it was whether homosexuality is a choice) but, with biz blocked and BL repeating the same question, it was pretty boring.  Not that it's not BL still repeating himself but I got bored and re-entered into it.    I tried to move the subject to something else(N Korea) but no one would participate.   Without question, this is the most active thread at WifS right now.

Just wanted to make that clear.   You and homosexuals are granted equal rights by me.

And now by SCOTUS also. Everyone wins.

It's nice to see that "Mr. Inclusive" is OK with native Americans having more rights than the white man.

Everyone within the jurisdiction of a state has the same rights regarding gaming as everyone else, white/black/native american/gay.

I'll admit it does seem odd that NA can vote, are US citizens, pay taxes, etc, but the law doesn't apply when it comes to casinos. Serious question - what else doesn't apply? I imagine if they ran their casino illegally, they'd be committing some sort of crime of the state of NC, no?

SCOTUS decision in the...70s(?)...states don't have jurisdiction over native american reservations.

This applies to taxes, gaming, etc.

Native Americans can't open casinos on land not within reservations.  It's not based on heritage, it's based on the local laws.  Not federally regulated at all.  And has no bearing whatsoever on federal regulation of marriage, which remains unconstitutional.  Whether or not same-sex couples can marry - or adopt - remains governed by state laws.  I don't understand what you have your panties in bunch about.  You follow the laws in your state or reservation, that's true for everyone.  I think you're confusing your rights as a citizen of the nation with your rights as a citizen of your state.
This.

Incidentally, Native Americans are also exempt from some taxes.  They are lumped into the states surrounding their reservations for voting purposes as a matter of convenience; the alternative would require them to either not be represented (like the people from DC) or to be massively overrepresented, neither of which is ideal.  So sharing representation with the people who live around them is just the easiest alternative.

They don't pay state taxes.  I don't see where you and Mike are struggling so badly with this - they are subject to almost all federal laws as dependent sovereign entities, but are separate from the states and thus not subject to state laws.  Regulation of casinos is a state matter.  Thus, if they want casinos, they can have casinos, because they aren't part of any state.  It's really not that complicated...

I guess being citizens of the United States is the problem.  One would think, in the interest of equality, that all laws would apply to all citizens.    Isn't that what "we're" fighting for with SSM?

So native Americans are "special" and can have different rights than other Americans, is that correct?

I thought you were all about equal rights; you know, everybody needs to be treated exactly the same?
