What's the basis for thinking that whites smoke indoors and blacks smoke in their cars?
None. Just saying that "Look at the numbers" is kind of dumb.    There are a lot of circumstances in play.
What are the circumstances? Do you have some completely unsubstantiated claims to add to toddcommish's "black people smoke outside, white people smoke indoors"?

Don't know the circumstances.  Do you?

You said there are a lot of circumstances in play, but you don't know what they are. So how do you know there are circumstances in play?

Do you think it's a coincidence rates of white and black marijuana use are similar, and blacks just happen to get busted more often?

They're both bad.  And "possible murder" does not mean "murder."  Several days of violent protests over a "possible murder" is a bad thing.
A possible murder and pent up anger and frustration and helplessness of a really ****** deal. People in that community feel like the police are targeting them, that the Brown investigation will not be impartial, and that the cops and the justice system as a whole are racist.
SO PROTEST THEN. But do it peacefully. This isn't helping your cause, I've been arguing it's hurting it.  Ferguson police may be racist, but the African-American community there doesn't look good either.

You know what I like about his pic?   It tells you why law enforcement agencies profile.

What do you see there?   Old white women?  Old black women?  Middle aged white men?   Middle aged black men?

No?  Just young black men?   Huh?  Wonder why law enforcement agencies secretly use profiles?
Because whites never loot.

What social cause triggered the Huntington Beach riots?

Sure, white people loot.   You know what these guys have in common.  Young men.

Assuming you were a young man, maybe not always within the law, do you think cops gave you an extra eye every now and then?   I was pulled over far more often, asked if I would allow a search my car on more than one occassion and generally stared at by cops a lot more often in my late teens/early 20s.   Long hair, earring and sleeveless shirts(which pre-dated the hoodie for "tough guy" appearances).

Was I profiled?  I'm sure.  Did I deserve it?  Did you miss the "maybe not always within the law" part?

I have no problems with peaceful protests.  That's not what's happening.
Are you sure about that?

If this was all that was happening, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Do you think everyone smoking pot follows the same M.O.?   That all the circumstances are the same?   Seems silly to assume they do/are.

"but the protests do bring attention to the problem and force us to examine ourselves."

Do you think that's what's happening here?  Or what will happen as a result of this?

Like it always has before?

Really?

Are you saying that protests don't bring attention to racial problems?
It certainly brings attention.  Probably not the kind of positive attention you seem to think it does.

Do you think anything positive will come out of the Ferguson incident, and the ensuing reactions from the black community?

I think people are already paying more attention to racial matters. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some structural changes to how police departments operate. More black officers, more cameras on the cops, better training, regular reviews of the demographics of traffic stops and arrests, etc.
The problem isn't police cameras..... The problem is the continued enabling of a culture where education, work ethic, and parenting is not valued. Many of these people believe they are trapped and destined to be in poverty, or even jail.... That's the problem. A police camera is a band aid not a solution.
Police cameras with audio recording devices are a solution. Outfit every law enforcement official with a camera/audio and it keeps law enforcement having to deal with lawsuits and civilians from having to deal with bad cops.

In this situation, audio would have have confirmed/rejected the police officer's story. Instead we have our current situation where both sides of the story have huge holes.
