For the 478th time Minnesota is not a stop and identify state.
They can still detain you if they feel there is reasonable cause. It doesn't matter if its a stop and identify state... Am I wrong?

Haven't you ever watched law and order.... I'm pretty sure its been around well before 2013.

Sure. But it's clear from the first officer's interaction with him that they don't suspect him of a crime. Also, no one reported a crime.

So he refused to comply, not because he had anything to hide, but because he chose to be a dick to cop.

As I mentioned earlier, when you make a choice like that, don't expect the rest of your day to go as smoothly as you originally planned.

So.... Back to mikes point. This guy can either show ID when they asked or go back to the station until the police can ID him. Reasonable cause is sorted out in court.... Not on the street. Once this guy goes down the racism road he's dug his own grave. I'm not saying the cops were right.... I'm saying this guy may have been right, but being right at the wrong time is wrong. He should have settled this in court and he'd have won without getting tased.

That's not the way it works.
Woah..... So legal issues or complaints are not handled in court? How are they handled? With riots? With calling people racist? How are they handled? Enlighten me, how DOES it work?

Showing his ID was too much of a hassle.    HE KNOWS HIS RIGHTS!!!!!

Here's the thing.   He had options.   He chose the wrong one.  At some point, he had to recognize this.  Yet he continued down the same path.  So he was either too stupid to know things weren't going as planned or too stubborn to change directions.

If that was the way it worked, cops could detain anyone, anytime without reason. They actually have to suspect you of a crime to detain you.

So how DOES it work?

If a cop wanted to detain you, rightfully or not, do you fight it out with the cop or in court?

OK... I'll clarify....
Suspected (rightfully or not) of loitering, trying to rob a bank, mistaken identity, doesn't matter.... Do you fight it out with the cop or in court?
